As Sweet as Tupelo Honey - New Cafe in Cameron Village

What's so special about Tupelo Honey? Other the fact that it's a great Van Morrison's song.... a lot! Fresh, scratch-made and Southern... that's the Tupelo Honey Cafe way, just recently opened at 420 Oberlin Road, adjacent to Cameron Village. Come see how this Asheville, NC based restaurant transforms the expected Southern comfort foods into inventive goodness, from fried chicken to shrimp and grits to ginormous buttermilk biscuits, a farm-to-fork delicious. And don't forget their signature craft cocktails and selection of unique craft beers.

Raleigh's Tupelo Honey Cafe has a completely new approach to popular Southern cuisines reflecting the global south and all of the interesting cultures and ethnicities enriching this region.

While long-standing tried-and-true Southern favorites will still be on the menu, the restaurant has introduced several smaller sharable plates such as;

Country Ham and Cream Cheese Wontons with shaved honeyed brussels sprouts salad

Lamb meatballs made with fresh herbs and served with house-made tomato curry sauce and feta.

Baked Three-Cheese Macaroni with Cajun blackened shrimp

House-Cured Atlantic Salmon with crispy potato pancake and tomato jam.

There's a total of 16 Southern Small Plates - perfect for sharing!

Southern tastes are changing as a new generation of diners influence the way in which we eat. Executive Chef Brian Sonoskus finds that they want; to share their dishes, global flavors, and to be able to customize their meals. And so Tupelo Honey has complied.

At Tupelo Honey you may choose your protein prepared to your taste. For example chicken may be prepared as Southern Buttermilk Fried, Cajun Blackened or a Curried Fried Chicken Thigh with Fresh Apple Salsa and a Tupelo Honey Drizzle.

The Raleigh restaurant has also enhanced its bar menu offering 26 taps and made-from-scratch Southern cocktails along with new bar snacks.

Every weekday there's something Special - Mondays - $2 Pint, Tuesdays - $3 Martinis, Wednesdays - 1/2 Price Wine and Throw It Back Thursday's; a '90s retro night from 8pm until 10pm featuring a '90's movie on the bar televisions (think everything from Back to the Future to Gremlins), build your own Old Fashions and a free bar snack with purchase.

Tupelo Honey Cafe began in 2000 in downtown Asheville, NC. They now have locations in Knoxville, Johnson City, Chattanooga, Greenville, SC; Charlotte and its newest location here in Raleigh.

Tupelo Honey Cafe - 425 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, 27605. Phone: 919-723-9353. Open for dinner seven nights a week and lunch Monday through Friday as well as brunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. Complimentary Valet Parking is available.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
