Heroes in a Half Shell - Raleigh's Oyster Festival, Glenwood South Oct. 11

We're not sure if oysters are aphrodisiacs, but in the name of science are you willing to eat hundreds to find out?

The fruits of labor: Some of the best in the Triangle, shuckers will be on display at Raleigh's Glenwood South's Oyster Shucking Contest showing how to choose, shuck, and eat (slurp or fork) oysters. Even if you swore off oysters fifteen years ago, you'll come away wanting more!

The Raleigh Oyster Fest will be held on Saturday, October 11th from 12 noon until 11:00pm. The festival will be held in the parking lot of the Creamery building between North St. and Glenwood Ave. It's free and open to the public.

Live music from 5 bands, cold beverages, great food including oysters prepared in a variety of ways is just the beginning of a fantastic fall Saturday in downtown Raleigh.

The rock stars of this festival will be the oyster shucking contestants vying for the title as Raleigh's best shucker. Sixteen contestant slots are up for grabs pitting local restaurant "pros" versus average everyday " joe's" in the preliminary shucking heats conducted throughout the festival with the finals being the 4 heat winners.

The overall shucking champion will receive an all-expense paid trip to Ireland to enjoy the Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival among other prizes. The Raleigh Oyster Festival's portion of the proceeds will benefit local non-profit organization, Shop Local Raleigh.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
