Get a Loaf of This - Boulted Bread New to the Triangle

If Boulted Bread's swirling aromas of crusty baguettes and ciabattas pulled from the ovens don't seduce you, then their buttery chocolate or fruit-filled croissants should do the trick.

Boulted Bread serves craft bread and pastries made with heirloom, organic, and locally sourced grains. Partners, Fulton Forde, Sam Kirkpatrick and Joshua Bellamy are baking bread the way it was done during Colonial days and how grandma did it at their newly opened bakery on 614 W South Street in Raleigh's Boylan Heights neighborhood. Currently, they're open Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-7 pm. Once renovations are complete opening hours and days will increase.

What's Bakin? Levain ($6) - A two pound, moist, naturally leavened french country style bread made with stone milled, boulted Red Turkey wheat and Spelt. Delicate tang and heirloom wheat flavor make an excellent keeping bread.

Seeded ($6) - Levain with flax, sesame, and sunflower seeds. This loaf is hearty and full of flavor.

Baguette ($3) - This takes on the classic form made with heirloom Red Turkey wheat flour and toasted corn meal to create a crisp, light, flavorful bread.

Rye ($6) - 100% NC grown heirloom Wren's Abruzzi Rye. A dense Scandinavian style bread using rye that has been grown in NC since colonial times. A rich and meaty flavor on this bread with flax, sesame, and sunflower seeds. Traditionally stored in root cellars, it keeps for weeks wrapped tight and stored in the fridge. Perfect sliced thin with butter and smoked fish.

Ciabatta ($4)-  Tangy, buttery, crispy, and fluffy. This loaf is perfect for sandwiches, or just to dip in your favorite olive oil.

How to Buy Bread? Place your order online under their Bread Share Program and choose what day and place you would like to pick up your order. You may pick-up orders on Wednesdays at the shop or at Raleigh City Farmer's Market from 4-7pm, or from the Boulted Bread shop on Fridays from 4-7pm.

But that's not all! There's no pre-ordering required for a variety of delicious pastries! From tart lemon squares topped with fresh blue and blackberries to a variety of croissants, cinnamon rolls, apricot, apple and strawberry pastries and much more. The table displayed with delicious and beautiful baked goods as well as the fantastic aromas coming from the ovens will tempt you to bringing home a box full.

Worth it? You bet! Take a mill pill and savor Boulted Bread!

Nutty by Nature - Mackeys Ferry Peanuts

Aw, Nuts...The world can be a scary place. But you can appreciate a snack attack starting with Mackeys Ferry Peanuts on the roasted nut circuit. They are now serving the Triangle and the Outer Banks!

If driving to and from the Outer Banks, you may have seen this place on US 64 and guessed it some tourist trap. You would be somewhat correct, but you really ought to stop and experience the friendly service and taste the many samples. It's worth the stop for the best peanuts, fudge, NC jams and jellies you'll ever taste.

Since 1983, Mackeys Ferry Peanuts has used the best peanuts grown in Eastern North Carolina to create premium peanut products for peanut lovers everywhere. Their century family farm is in Martin County (a county which produces more peanuts than any other county in NC). Mackeys produces some of the best peanut brittle, blister fried peanuts, french fried redskin peanuts, "Flame Thrower" peanuts, Blue ribbon winning Sugar Coated peanuts, Salt and Pepper Peanuts, and a variety of chocolate confections. They cook boiled peanuts from scratch weekly.

Not passing by on US 64? No worries. Mackeys is now peddling their delicious nuts at the Raleigh City Farmers' Market at City Market on Wednesdays from 4-7pm. Stop by and sample the different flavors.

The result is no less than addictive!

Summer Slush - 8 Drinks to Help You Chill Out

Summer Vacation: Where you drink triple, see double, and act single. There's nothing better than an ice cold alcoholic beverage on a hot summer day ... and the best summer drinks are cold and full of flavor. Here are eight (8) cocktails and mixed drink recipes (click on titles) that will ease your pain and beat the summertime heat.

Welcome to the most elegant drink of the summer. Just listening to the clinking ice and gentle fizz of a gin and tonic is a cool, relaxing experience, and when that gin starts to enter your bloodstream, it's pure anesthesia.

No drink is more venerated than this signature drink of the Kentucky Derby. Best with  shaved or crushed ice, never ice cubes.

Have you ever tried making a strawberry daiquiri with freshly picked strawberries? Pure heaven.

Here's a refreshing orange-juice based cocktail. And not only does this drink quench your thirst, it offers attractive visual effects too. Don't forget to "stir to complete your sunrise!"

Cynics might argue that the mojito is getting a bit too popular these days, but there's no denying that this is simply a great drink. The mix of mint, rum and lime juice is truly refreshing.

A Sea Breeze is a cocktail containing vodka with cranberry juice and grapefruit juice. The drink may be shaken in order to create a foamy surface.

7) The Caipirinha (for you World Cup Fans)
The Caipirinha (kai-per-REEN-ya) is Brazil's national cocktail, which makes it perfect for World Cup parties this June.  The drink is similar to a Daiquiri but uses uses a Brazilian liquor called cachaa (ka-SHAH-suh).

8) Summer Martini (aka - Fresh Fruit Muddlers)
You can make any cocktail more special with the addition of fresh fruits (muddled) and mixing it with an ounce or two of gin or vodka.  Think summer martini.

Have a great summer and remember, "Take life with a grain of salt... a slice of lime, and a shot of tequila".

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
