Not Just Desserts - Bittersweet Cocktail and Dessert Bar
Rye or Die: Our preferences were set as children ... let's see, do I want something healthy or something sweet? No brainer. As we got older the bar palette expanded (dare we say got more sophisticated?) along with a way to pay for it (credit cards). So why not combine our craving for sweets and sophisticated bitters? That is exactly what bittycakes owner, Kim Hammer, did with the opening of Bittersweet cocktail and dessert bar in Downtown Raleigh. Currently open Wednesday thru Saturday from 5pm - 1:30am, Bittersweet offers an all-natural seasonal menu of wonderful desserts, coffee, and cocktails. The sweets will pull you in and the cocktails and late night banter will make you forget about time. Sample Menu
Pass the Cookie Plate: Do you want bourbon with your pie, champagne with your cake, or Irish Whiskey with your coffee? Desserts are baked in-house and include such things as a Cookie Plate for $6 (chocolate-chip sea salt cookie, homemade Oreo and an everything bar), a Bowl of Fresh Strawberries from Lil Farm with Maple View Farms whipped cream for $7 and the shot of Vanilla Buttercream for $1. With strawberries in season, the Punk-Rock Strawberry Shortcake is absolutely divine.
Cocktails are Expertly Mixed and include favorites like the Rye or Die (rye whiskey, cherry liqueur and Mexican coke). The bubbles are overflowing with champagne, cava, and presecco and there is even Seasonal Lemonade (spiked of course). Coffee (French press for 2, espressos, cappuccinos) is made with beans from Durham's Counter Culture Coffee. All this makes you want to " Parfait every Day !"
Bittersweet: Location - 16 E. Martin Street, Raleigh (across from The Mecca); Hours - Wed thru Sat, 5pm - 1:30am; Contact: 919.977.3829; Website

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money.
We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
