Go Ahead, Make Her Day - Gifts for Mom

She'd probably be happy with just a long phone call, but still: Why not go the extra mile for the woman who spent five hours on a My Little Pony-shaped birthday cake and consoled you when Chad (she didn't even like Chad) broke your 17-year-old heart? Here are some thoughtful gifts for Mom.

She Got Served - Gather the kids and surprise Mom and serve her with a beautiful breakfast prepared at home with local products and a pretty setting bouquet.

Nofo at the Pig has created sample menus below to help kick start the "perfect breakfast in bed" gift for Mom. The staff at Nofo will even help you gather your groceries, throw in a complimentary placemat & napkins for the kids to decorate. And you're ready to surprise Mom with a delicious home-made Mother's Day breakfast.

Here's some Nofo "sample" menus.  But you may customize any of them to your liking.

The Mother- Eggs, bacon or link sausage, cheese grits, buttermilk biscuits, butter & jam, coffee or tea.

The Mom- Pancakes or waffles, butter & syrup, jam, bacon or link sausage, strawberries or fruit, coffee or tea.

The Mammina - Coffee cake or sugar cake, bacon or link sausage, strawberries or fruit, coffee or tea.

The Mum - Scones, lemon curd, preserves, clotted cream, strawberries, tea.

The Momma Mia! - Bloody Marys, eggs, ham biscuits, grits.

La Mere - Champagne, Strawberries, Sugar Cake.

Get Her Out of a Rut: When she's wearing the same gold bracelet for 30 years, it's time to shake things up a bit with some designer pieces that's the bees knees!

Slane Jewelry is one of the most exciting jewelry collections in the world today. Especially well-loved for their classic Bee jewelry, sisters Heath and Landon Slane were born and raised in High Point, NC and started creating sterling silver jewelry with the same quality and detail that had been historically dedicated only to gold and platinum. The look of their rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces is exciting and beautiful and never predictable, but always adored by Moms.

A Slane Trunk Show will be held at Bailey's Fine Jewelry in Cameron Village on Saturday, May 10th from 10am to 5pm. Hurry over for Mom, or arrange a private appointment by calling 919-829-7337.

Bailey's Fine Jewelry: 415 Daniels St. Cameron Village, Raleigh 27605. Hours: Mon-Sat. 10am-6pm, Website.

Olé All Day! - Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Tequila! What's more annoying ... Mimes or Mariachi Bands?  Who would have thunk that the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France would become the American excuse to don your sombrero and tip your tequila shot glass every fifth of May. Well, Cinco de Mayo has become THE DAY to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture and many area restaurants are celebrating with music and food and drink specials (aka booze in the blender). Here are a few of our picks for serving Cerveza with a Smile:

Gonza Tacos Y Tequila - Raleigh, Wake Forest: Opening at 4pm with giveaways, live  music, and extra surprises. Reservations recommended.

Salt & Lime Cabo Grill - north Raleigh: Family friendly with dinner specials and children eat for free!

Chuy's in North Hills - Raleigh: Known for their Big As Yo Face Burritos  and special   salsas.  Come early for giveaways and specials.

Jose and Sons - Downtown Raleigh Warehouse District: There will be live Latin music from The Guillo Carias Band from 6-9 p.m. Drink specials include $3 Tecate Tallboys and $5 (select) tequilas.

Calavera Empanadas and Tequila - Blount Street, Downtown Raleigh: Beach cruiser bike giveaway and late night party with DJ Keith Ward (8pm until closing).

Dos Taquitos Xoco - Glenwood South, Raleigh: Relive the hangover. Even though you missed the Sunday block party, they will be restocked for the true Cinco de Mayo  festivities.  Also check out Centro (Downtown) and the original Dos Taquitos (Creedmoor Road).

Tijuana Flats (Raleigh, Durham, Cary): Last of the 3 day party featuring the $6.99 burrito and beer combo + drink specials.

Welcome to Moe's!: Moe's Southwest Grill locations will be offering a free side of their new spicy guacamole on Cinco de Mayo. Get there early because the restaurants will be giving away free collectible T-  shirts to the first 50 people at each of their locations.

Meet your Mexican Cousins: Still looking for something to do? Other Triangle favorites include Chubby's Tacos - Durham; Los Potrillos - Chapel Hill; Blue Corn Café - Durham; Los Tres Magueyes - Morrisville; and Cueva de Lobos - Raleigh

But, watch out for the Frito Bandito!

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on
The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of
The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
