This Old House - A Downtown Wynne-Win

The Merrimon-Wynne House, restored to its original grandeur celebrated its grand opening last Friday evening as downtown Raleigh's newest premier wedding and event venue. Its charm and elegance oozed with southern hospitality from the moment one stepped onto the ornamental, Victorian front porch showing off intricate trim work depicting gears, bolts, and rivets in wood.

The house was built in 1876 and moved to its current location as part of the Blount Street Commons project in 2008 from N. Wilmington Street. Since the project was abandoned, Jodi Heyens was able to purchase the house in June of 2013 with the intent to restore and renovate as an events venue.

With the historic preservation board's regulations in-hand, Heyens worked with Clearscapes Architecture of Raleigh and C.T. Wilson Construction of Durham to bring the house back to its original state.

The 4700 square foot house is ideal for elegant affairs. The renovation opened up the first floor for better flow and can accommodate large parties up to 200 with ease. Modern bathrooms and a catering kitchen in the back were added for today's conveniences.

The adjacent lot to the left of the house was also purchased by Heyens, and is undergoing extensive landscaping including privacy hedges, trees and a 3200 square foot bricked patio. This outdoor space will be used for wedding ceremonies and even larger receptions and events with an option to tent.

The grand opening party was festive and went off without a hitch for guests to enjoy splendid hors d'oeuvres catered by Donovan's Dish from Durham.

The flowers by Fresh Affairs exceeded anyone's expectations. There were stunning arrangements on the fireplace mantels and amazing centerpieces on the buffet tables, grand hallways and porches that brought the beauty of this old house back to life.

Simply Put Vintage staged the house for the party. Showing great examples of how they style and create spaces to look as if it's always been there. Antique and vintage furniture was used throughout the house to make it feel homey but with plenty of space for guests to mingle and move from room to room.

There's no question that there's big demand for a historic grand home type venue in Raleigh. Without doing any advertising, the Merrimon-Wynne House has already booked 36 events in 2014 and several already for 2015. These numbers prove us right.

Merrimon-Wynne House will be hosting many classic and elegant affairs. Welcome home, we're glad she's back!

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of  The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
