Elevate Your Taste
Organic Fast Food? Elevation Burger Proves Fast Food Doesn't Need to be Unhealthy
An organic fast food burger chain? It's happening at Elevation Burger, a Virginia-based franchise that just opened Saturday in Raleigh at Brier Creek Commons at 8301 Brier Creek Parkway. Elevation Burger is showing us that fast food doesn't need to be junk food. What a paradigm to break and long overdue!
The beef is 100% USDA-certified organic, grass-fed, free-range, and ground-on-premises; the cheese is real cheddar (yes, the kind that tastes great and doesn't melt worth a darn on nachos), and the French fries are cooked in 100% olive oil. Even the cookies are made with organic eggs and butter. Best of all, prices are not your typical "organic-expensive"! A Cheeseburger is $3.99, and an Elevation Burger (two beef patties with double cheese) is only $5.99.
They offer Veggie burgers in two flavors; 'Fire-Roasted' and 'Tastes Like Veggies' for those of you who are Vegans. Or you can even combine a beef patty and a veggie patty into a 'Half the Guilt Burger' for those of you who are half-Vegans. And if you want, you can swap the bun for a lettuce wrap.
For sides, although the French fries are outstanding, they do have alternatives, a side salad, or mandarin oranges. And like any good burger joint, you can get shakes and malts hand-scooped in great flavors like Oreo cookies, blueberries, mango, key lime or a fountain soda with free refills.
Overall our visit to Elevation Burger we found everything to be excellent. The food was delicious. Service was fast and friendly; they take your name and bring the burger out to you whether dining in or to-go. And, someone even comes to take away your tray when you're finished.
The restaurant's fun and hip dcor is made from bamboo and recycled materials, plus the open kitchen provides guests with the ability to see their food being created right in front of them.
Get some healthy junk food now at Elevation Burger.

Latest Buzz on ... Fashion, Food and Fun
Turn, Turn, Turn - Triangle Restaurant Openings, Closings, and Remodels
Eat Here ... Diet at Home: Never was this mantra truer than today. But that does not mean that the restaurant business is stable. Just the opposite is true. So here's a quick dish of current Triangle restaurant openings, closings, and remodels including some old favorites and exciting new comers. To every seasoning ... turn, turn, turn.
Remember Your First Loaves: Man does not live on white bread alone. High-quality artisan breads are now the rage ... but where should you go to find the best? Starting August 26, Yellow Dog Bread Company will open its doors in downtown Raleigh at Person Street Plaza (Oakwood / Mordecai). Yellow Dog Bread Company is both an artisanal bakery and coffee bar that will sell breads, cupcakes and cookies. Owners Tanya and Matt Andrews named the venture after their beloved dog Ellie (a yellow lab). But, to our knowledge, they are not baking dog biscuits. Check out their facebook .
Cup of Joule: Last week the medical community came out with a finding that more than 3 cups of coffee a day shortens your life ... unless you are over 55 in which it has no effect at all. Well, that bit of confusing data isn't stopping the long awaited opening of Ashley Christensen's newest venture, Joule Coffee. This much anticipated coffee bar will open on August 28 in the former Wilmoore Caf spot at 223 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. Find AC Restaurants
Don't Knock the Rock: Downtown Raleigh's The Rockford has now reopened after closing in early July for much needed renovations. This popular Glenwood South destination now sports a larger kitchen and other improvements, but still preserves the look and feel of "The Rock." Website
Quatro Quesos: Tijuana Flats is opening its fourth Triangle location on Monday (August 19) in Durham (703 Ninth St.). This popular Tex-Mex restaurant offers a made-to-order menu and a hot sauce bar. Check it out.
Rise to the Occasion: Elevation Burger (reviewed above) opened its first NC location last Saturday in Raleigh's Brier Creek shopping center. Elevation Burger serves organic, grass-fed, free-range beef along with fries & shakes. Vegan options also available. Website
New Dishes: Zely & Ritz on Glenwood South in downtown Raleigh is closing after nine years. That is bad news for those of us who valued their farm to table concept. The good news, though, is that they sold the restaurant to Steve Day, a former banquet chef at the Umstead Hotel and Spa. Day plans to open " Plates" by early October. So consider this a dish replacement.
See You in September: Another closing and opening will impact patrons of Jibarra, the Mexican restaurant on Davie Street in the warehouse district of downtown Raleigh. This week is their last before they close with plans to reopen in September with a new concept (dedicated to their father, Jose).
End of An Era: Durham's Honey's Restaurant and Catering, known for its 24-hour breakfast and country-cooking menu with more than 400 items, will shut down Sunday after serving the Bull City for more than 50 years. Opened in the early 1960's, Honey's officially closed at 3pm yesterday (August 18). Owner, Buck Dickerson, intends to open a smaller restaurant under a new name but keep the feel of the old diner. No announcement as to when this will occur.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money. We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it. |
