Latest Buzz on ...
Fashion, Food and Fun
Start Small, Go Big - Smart, Young Entrepreneurs Making It Happen Modestly speaking, you were a big shot in high school: Latin club president, lacrosse captain, mathlete, and, oh, prom queen. Yet none of it could've fully prepared you for owning a small business. Meet some local fledgling business owners that are creative, intelligent and having fun living the life they have imagined. Inspirational businesses you've just gotta support! They all get an A+ in our book! The Enchanted Fairy - A Boutique for Pirates, Princesses, Pixies & More at 225 Bickett Blvd in Raleigh The Enchanted Fairy is a magical Children's Boutique that features unique designer fashions for girls and boys in sizes 6 months to 10, along with costumes, toys, gifts and accessories. The brands are carefully chosen and recognized for their innovative designs, creativity and unsurpassed high quality. You will notice the difference! But that's not all! You can reserve this boutique for an Enchanted Party. Pick a theme from a variety of party packages; all including the fabulous "red carpet runway" for your princess and her guests to walk, decked-out in a costume of their choice. Fairy and Princess Dress-Up Fashion Shows are something all little girls would love to have. Owner, Catherine Roberts has that 'magical touch' where every child who enters her shop for parties or shopping are inspired and encouraged to imagine, pretend and fly with their ideas and fantasies. Her boutique was built for the sole purpose of children's happiness and dreams. "The roles of play, creativity and freedom are of the utmost importance in a child's life. Give them the time and space to just play and be free..." says Catherine. And so this is why The Enchanted Fairy was born. Catherine Roberts opened this magical boutique only 9 months ago and has discovered throwing children's parties and allowing kids to dress-up and play with the colorful merchandise she's carefully selected has been more rewarding than any other job she's ever had. A lot of planning, hard work and a bit of fairy dust have made her dream job come true! Avelist - A List Sharing Website People can use Avelist to make lists and also search for lists that other people have made. Think Pinterest but with lists instead of pictures! Lists can be anything! - Favorite restaurants in Raleigh
- Great movies to check out
- Service providers you recommend
- Suggested Wedding venues
- Books you Love
Imagine searching for anything and getting an organized list as your search result. This is the vision of Avelist! You can also use Avelist to make private lists for your own personal use (to-do lists, grocery lists, etc). Watch video to learn more. Jody Porowski, owner and founder of Avelist began her software development career at SAS. But this idea came to her from three friends that were getting married. None of the three girls knew each other but Jody knew them all and saw them all spending hours researching the same things (wedding venues, photographers, florists, caterers). Jody wished there was an easy way for her friends to share their lists with each other. And she quickly realized the need for ways to easily share and find information wasn't limited to people planning their weddings. People do research every day and would benefit from lists that others have made! So the idea of Avelist was born. The Avelist team is made up of 4 full-time employees, 5 contractors and 6 interns. The website is in the early stages but it's growing quickly. It currently has users in over 40 states. If you're interested in checking it out, you can visit the website and you can download the mobile app on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Don't hesitate to send suggestions and ideas to feedback@avelist.com. It's a work in progress and they welcome your input. Many social media and Internet consumer companies come out of NYC and San Francisco. Avelist is based in the Triangle and is excited to be a part of the ecosystem here. It currently runs off of investments from individuals in the community. If you are interested in learning more about the investment opportunity, feel free to email Jody Porowski at jody@avelist.com. Avelist Investment Opportunity - Avelist is holding an investment information session on Thursday, August 15th at 7pm. It will be at the home of a current investor at 1535 Iredell Drive. Raleigh, NC. 27608. Please RSVP to jody@avelist.com if you'd like to come. It's a no-pressure informational event where people can learn more about Avelist, meet the team, and hear about the current investment opportunity. They have already raised $225,000 and are seeking an additional $100,000. Website. |

Gold Brush - Artist Showcase - Sullivan Anlyan
Heavy Metal (Sculpture) Background: When Wilmington, NC artist Sullivan Anlyan was studying art at UNC Chapel Hill, she concentrated in metal sculpture. However, she always felt that her forte was drawing. Combining this skill with her love of animals and nature, Anlyan produces animal paintings using pen and ink and paint on canvass with a metal leaf background. The pieces range from small (4"x4") priced at $45 to canvasses spanning 5' x 5'. The animal eyes draw you in and the metal leaf makes the image pop. In addition to her signature animal works, Anlyan also does a lot of commission work including portraits and book illustrations. What an affordable way to invest in precious metal!
Cwazy Wabbits: Anlyan has always had a great love of animals. As a child she was the girl with no dolls, only stuffed animals. As a grown up, she and her two children have a menagerie of live animals including two house rabbits, Marisol and Fanny. Inspired by the forms and images found in nature, Anlyan's art captures the posture (& back paws) of rabbits, the smooth curvature of bones, and the unique expressions in an animal's eyes. The use of metal leaf backgrounds is her signature, but she also works Pantone color palettes into her pieces. Anlyan's art is showcased at Figments Gallery in Wilmington where she is currently the feature artist on their website.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money. We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it. |
