To Bee or Not to Bee
We've Got You Covered - Bloxsun Sun Scarves
The best advice Mom ever gave: Stay out of the sun. Right back at ya, wise lady!
You've steered clear of functional fashion ever since the term "sensible shoes" came about. But here's something that's quite fashionable and functional and will protect you from those UV rays that are so bad for us. Bloxsun Sun Scarves, a UPF 50+ protective garment that happens to be fun, chic and very in-style.
You worry about sun protection a lot. Living in a sunny place like NC (excluding the past two weeks) you spend a lot of time outside. The beach, the pool, watching the kids practice baseball and soccer, or having lunch al fresco with girlfriends; you're constantly in the sun. Bloxsun's got your back! With their fabric at a 50 rating means that it will allow only 150th of the sun's UV rays to pass through it. That means these scarves block the rays much better than those cover-ups you've been throwing on when you think you've had enough sun.
This is the perfect gift for Mother's Day! She may have a few UPF 50 shirts (but they look like exercise shirts), so she'll love Bloxsun's in-genius idea and technology to make scarves... and in various pretty patterns to boot! The scarves have become a popular accessory to stylish women everywhere seeking a sun protection alternative with an elegant flair.
They're portable (should you find to need it unexpectedly), and easy to remove if going indoors. They can be used to protect precious cargo... covering a baby's carriage. Or wear it over the shoulders, across the chest, as a sarong, across your lap and at the same time being oh so classy and chic!
Let Mom know you care as much about her as she does you. Bloxsun Sun Scarves can be ordered online at www.bloxsun.com . And even better...They're made in the USA!
A portion of all sales from Bloxsun will be donated annually to the Melanoma Research Foundation to assist in research, advocacy and help in the fight against melanoma. Website
A Perfect Fit for Mom - Core Results
You know your mother as well as she knows herself. She's always doing for everyone else and sacrifices her own needs in doing so. Help her put a stop to her self-neglect. For Mother's Day make that first appointment for her to Core Results where one visit will change the rest of her life. She'll be a happier and healthier mom. And for this the whole family will be ecstatic!
Once moms start working with Core Results, the thing that keeps them coming back is their trainers. They're professionals who happen to have chosen fitness as a career. The world is full of cute young, super fit, "personal trainers" who's only other priority in life is to go out downtown! Core Result trainers are a little older, a little wiser, and have careers, husbands, wives, and kids of their own. They can relate a little better than most to the amazing balancing act that a mom has between fitness and the rest of life.
Mom's make up a huge portion of Core Results clientele. And they get all types...brand new moms, empty nest moms, expecting moms, and grandmothers. The first thing that draws mothers to Core Results is their facility. It is a private studio. They feel comfortable there and not like they're in a swinging gym/singles bar! You just don't get that vibe at Core Results. There's no membership and everyone there is with a trainer working towards an individual goal.
Another thing that moms like is the Core approach. Core Results is NOT a one-size-fits-all program. Programs like that are out there but this one has built their company and reputation by listening to their clients' needs and goals, and getting them RESULTS!
For Mother's Day, make that call for Mom to come in for a free, no-obligation training session to see if there's a good fit. There's no pressure-only real motivation to help her achieve results with her personal health and fitness goals.

Straight From the Art: 34th Annual Artsplosure Festival (May 17 - 19)
Still Spinning. When Raleigh's Artsplosure was conceived, people listened to music on vinyl records spinning at 33 1/3 rpm's. Well, thirty three (+ 1) years later, vinyl records are making a comeback and Artsplosure (an "explosion " of activity with "exposure " to all types of art) is still spinning strong. This year's festival (May 17-19) brings three days of music, art, and festival activities to Moore Square and City Plaza and spreads the tinkle of ivory throughout downtown. The fun starts on Friday at 1pm in City Plaza with Squonk Opera's Go Roadshow (see below) and "artsplodes" on Saturday and Sunday with full festival regalia. Highlights include:
Squonk Opera's GO Roadshow! A carnivalesque, 45-minute cavalcade of spinning instruments, funny hats and cheerful, rhythmic and melodic bombast that will delight audiences of all ages. This show-making machine includes a 34-foot long monster truck retrofitted with truck-horn calliope, a wall made of rotors, and a spinning grand piano that is played while it wheels around! Ten shows throughout the 3 days. Schedule
Art Market: If your crib is in need of affordable art, check out all the artist booths lining Moore Square on Saturday and Sunday. From original pottery and ceramics to creative canvasses, jewelry and photographs, there will be something for every dcor.
The Raleigh Street Piano Project: Pianos that were destined for the landfill have been beautifully decorated by local nonprofits and groups benefitting special needs populations. Placed in locations across downtown Raleigh, YOU are invited to play, or enjoy the music played by others.
Sandy Feat: Watch Ed Moore and his team turn tons of sand into a work of art.
Music in the Park: Artsplosure is proud to present two days (Saturday and Sunday) of incredible music on two stages in Moore Square. Fifteen acts - Saturday Schedule; Sunday Schedule
Kidsplosure Tube Art Garden: Create your own flying insects and birds, wearable butterfly wings, and beautiful spring flowers using recycled objects and more.
Chessworks: Challenge others to a game of life-size chess! For most of the past decade, Artsplosure audiences have enjoyed this oversized version of a classic board game.
So reserve a spot on your May 17 - 19 calendar for Artsplosure. Note: For those of you in a last minute Mother's Day gift bind, nothing says love like a trip to the jewelry tents ... and a brunch reservation (post Mother's Day) without the long wait line! Website

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money. We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it. |
