Taking Advantage of a Unique Photo Opportunity

By: Jim Villers, Virginia Beach, VA (Tidewater Region)

The Rubber Duck is a 40 foot tall sculpture by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. It was brought to Norfolk, VA, to celebrate the reopening of the Chrysler Museum of Art after being closed for about 18 months of a two year expansion and renovation. The duck floats in the Hague Inlet in front of the entrance to the museum. It has created quite a "splash."

I took this picture of my 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL early on a Sunday morning while few spectators were around the duck. I always love a good photo op!

NEW! Online AACA Member Directory Now Available

Looking up AACA members just got easier! The AACA has a brand new online membership directory where members can look up other members by name and/or location. Who hasn't gotten home from a meet or tour and said to themselves I wish I would have gotten so-and-so's information?

To access the new online directory, simply go to the AACA website and sign-in to the members' area. Once signed in, you should see "Membership Lookup" near the bottom of the left side bar menu. Just click on that link and you're ready to start searching.

Juniors at Hershey Program Inspires 4th Grader's History Assignment

When ten year old William Watson's teacher assigned him a history project, his inspiration came from his 2013 Juniors at Hershey experience. William was inspired to highlight Henry Ford and early Ford automobiles as his history subject after he attended the 150th birthday celebration for Henry Ford during the Juniors at Hershey program in 2013. William crafted a figure of Henry Ford from a plastic bottle and presented both a written and oral presentation on the differences between the Model T Ford and the Model A Ford.

William has been attending the Hershey AACA Eastern National Fall Meet with his family since he was one year old and has been an active participant in the Juniors at Hershey program since age five. We hope he continues being an active participant in the Juniors program and one day follows in the footsteps of former participants Max Bower and Wade Mader to become a program mentor as a young adult.

Congratulations William and thank you for choosing your Juniors at Hershey experience as your history assignment.

The Hershey Region AACA is dedicated to educating our youth. What is your chapter/region dedicated to? We'd love to share more success stories like this from your chapter/region, so send them to Stacy at szimmerman@aaca.org.

Hershey Fall Meet Follow-Up

By: Matthew Hocker

During this year's Hershey Fall Meet, the library was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. Throughout the week, over 100 visitors stopped by to say hello. Research questions covered everything from what material we had on 1941 Buicks to the history of motometers. At the library, we love a good story and our visitors had plenty of interesting tales to share.

This year's first-ever literature "Yard Sale" was also a resounding success, raising over $9,200 in a span of three hours! On top of that, we raised more than $3,000 in donations and sales in the library and at the library tent on the Chocolate Field. Behind the success of it all was a team of dedicated volunteers, to whom we are grateful for all their hard work. They deserve a very special thanks.

With the Fall Meet over, you can expect to see some exciting things from the library down the road. We're hard at work processing all of our recent donations and have come across several fascinating pieces we haven't seen before. You never know what you'll find here!
