Ken Eberts Commemorative Hershey Poster
|
"At The New Hotel Hershey"
Limited Edition Poster (24" w by 20" h) by artist Ken Eberts - 2000 Personally Signed and Numbered
This poster was created to commemorate the 2013 Antique Automobile Club of America's Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is the seventeenth poster in a continuing series.
Pictured is the recently renovated Hotel Hershey. The Hotel was originally opened in 1933. During the AACA Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania this Hotel is a social Mecca for old car enthusiasts, some of whom have stayed there during the meet for over 50 years.
The cars featured in this painting are from the Fred Guyton Collection; Mr. Guyton has stayed at the Hotel Hershey for many years with his self-described "Hershey Gang." They are all pictured in the painting.
All the vehicles shown in this painting were purchases at the Hershey Meet. They are (Clockwise starting at the right) a 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II 4JS driven by Mr. Guyton with Beverly Estes seated beside him. In the back seat are Ed Harley and Katie Ribbins; a 1942 Lincoln Continental V12 Coupe with Jack Juratovic standing alongside; a 1930 Duesenberg Model J 8J329 Murphy Convertible Sedan; a 1935 Auburn 8-851 Convertible Cabriolet with a grouping of friends Thym Smith, Walter Blenko, and Bill Davis. Behind the Rolls-Royce is the 1930 Packard 8-743 Speedster Phaeton. Quite a collection of automobiles.
We would like to thank Meguiar's, Inc. for their sponsorship of this poster. Meguiar's participation makes it possible to provide this poster as a fundraiser to benefit the Antique Automobile Club of America and the AACA Museum, while providing everyone and opportunity to acquire a poster to commemorate this event.
The posters will be available for sale during the meet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next to the AACA National Headquarters Tent on the Chocolate Field and Saturday across from the showfield. If you can't make the meet but would like to purchase a poster, please Send check or U.S. Money Order for $35.00 to: Ken Eberts, P.O. Box 613, Temecula, CA 92591. U.S.A. shipping included. Out of U.S.A. add $5.00. Contact knebrts@aol.com with questions.

A Case for a FIRE Extinguisher
Submitted by: Perry Anthony
A sad picture for sure but this beautiful '56 Ford Thunderbird was part of our club caravan on the way to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee on June 22, 2013 when the rear brake started to "hang up" and before being noticed, a major fire started in the back wheel and in less than 20 minutes the T-Bird was reduced to a total loss.
The question isn't so much a discussion on whether a fire extinguisher would have made the difference but rather where it should be located in the car.
Most people carry an extinguisher but it is usually in the trunk. In this case it would have not been accessible as the fire started in the rear of the T-Bird and quickly consumed the vehicle.
Probably best to carry the right kind of extinguisher in the driving compartment, behind the seat of the driver for faster access. In this case, however, it is doubtful if it would have made any difference. Truly a sad story!
*Editor's Note: National Headquarters will have fire extinguishers for sale during the Fall Meet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in front of the Giant Center and on Saturday across from the Show Field.

AACA: A Shared Legacy
On Sale for $15.00! (Originally $59.95)
By: Matthew Hocker
Here at AACA, we're proudly committed to sharing a passion for automotive history with current and future generations. Truth be told, the history of our club has proven just as rich. When AACA was founded in 1935, our fourteen founding members probably had little idea just how much the club would grow. Since then, the definition of what constitutes an antique vehicle has expanded, and we currently have more than 60,000 members throughout the world.
Those interested in the history of the club should consider purchasing the book, AACA: A Shared Legacy. Published by Automobile Quarterly in 2010 to commemorate the club's 75th anniversary, the book traces the history of the organization from its humble beginnings to more recent times. Chapters are arranged thematically and cover a wide array of subjects: the club's founding, the history behind the AACA Library & Research Center and AACA Museum, the Glidden Tour, and even the evolution of restoration procedures over the years!
A Shared Legacy's 144 pages are beautifully illustrated with fantastic black and white and full color photographs, documenting the club's history. What really makes the story come to life, however, are the scrapbook-like inserts scattered throughout the publication. These items can be removed for closer inspection, simulating the experience of leafing through documents at an archive. Inside, you will find everything from reprinted antique postcards and newspaper articles to reproduction gas ration cards and a letter from Ronald Reagan.
What's more, this exclusive book can be purchased through AACA for just $15.00. That's $44.95 off the original retail price! It is available for sale through our website. We will also have copies on-hand in our merchandise trailer during the Eastern Fall Meet at Hershey. This book is out of print and supplies are limited, so don't let this deal pass you by!
Shipping for International Buyers: Please inquire about shipping costs before making a purchase. For more information, please contact Karen White at kwhite@aaca.org.

Library & Research Center - Visiting the Library During Fall Meet
|
For those of you visiting Hershey this year for the Fall Meet, be sure to check out the Library booth over in Chocolate Field C3F. Folks will be on hand to answer questions you have about our services. We will also have more than 200 books available for sale, from hard-to-find pre-war titles to more modern offerings. Other items for sale include vintage shop manuals and automotive advertisements. In addition to our booth on the show field, the Library will also have a nice selection of books and owner's manuals for sale (including those in our eBay inventory) at our permanent location (501 W. Governor Rd.), and staff will be on hand to help you with your research needs. Our extensive collection might contain just what you're looking for, whether it's that elusive piece of information needed to restore your '57 Chevy or books detailing early motor tours throughout the world. The Library truly has something for everyone, so why not stop by and say hello? We'd love to see you. Things to Keep in Mind When Visiting the Library
Personal Belongings: Leave all of your bags (including purses), briefcases, and boxes in your car. The reason for this restriction is simple; we don't want any pieces of our collection accidentally falling into your bag and leaving the library.
Bring ID: Please bring your driver's license, state-issued ID or something of value. We will hold on to your card while you hold on to our material. When you are finished with your research we will swap again.
Food and Drink: We do not allow food or drink in the library. Paper and pickles do not mix.
Photocopy/Scanning Services: We offer black & white photocopies for $0.25/page, color copies for $0.50/page, and digital scans for $1.00/page. If we are exceptionally busy during your visit and unable to make copies immediately, we will mail your copies to you at a later date.
Ask Questions: Remember that this is your library! Be inquisitive. Keep in mind that there are many more pieces in our collection than are visible in our reading room. Ask questions and enjoy the library.
