Closing Remarks
As a Christian counselor, I know that people in counseling want to know how to get over painful events, how to live their life without familiar pain, and how to deal with breaking or broken relationships. In other words, how to grow up and live life as a healthy adult. But how do we do that? Is it really as simple as growing up? Does that happen when we turn 18 years old? In the Message, Ephesians 4:14-15 states "No prolonged infancies among us, please. We'll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for imposters. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love-like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do...so that we grow up healthy in God, robust in love." The Phillips translation goes on to explain the process in 1 Corinthians 13:11: "When I was a little child I talked and felt and thought like a little child. Now that I am an adult I have finished with childish things." At Life Christian Counseling Network (LCCN) we recognize that all growth is ultimately spiritual growth. Jesus, our Emmanuel, or God with us, is our ultimate model of what it means to be a person-centered Christian counselor. Using our education, training, and experience, we are part of the healing journey; we work to educate and empower individuals, and equip people relationally so that we can all grow up. On May 4th, Life Christian Counseling Network will be welcoming nationally-known speaker and bestselling Christian author Leslie Vernick to teach relationship principles: how you can live a life that pleases God even when others can't or won't; identifying, avoiding, and learning what to do about emotionally destructive relationships you may already be involved in, including emotionally destructive Christian marriages. We have asked her to come because we know that this is the type of teaching that is needed in this region that we serve. Growing with you, Dr. Chris Chris Buckingham, PhD, LCPC, NCC Executive Director Life Christian Counseling Network
