A hotel chain changed its comment cards from just comments to "catching people doing something right." How would this change your view of how the employees performed?
According to one of the largest Gallup studies of its kind by renowned author Marcus Buckingham, in his book "First Break All the Rules," he found that to attract and retain the best employees it is important to recognize or praise employees periodically and as warranted. This does not require money, or gifts but acknowledging the work someone has done and being specific about what you appreciated.
