2016 HBAG Legislative Rally - A Huge Success!

Thank you to all of the HBA builder members, associate members, executive officers, and guests from throughout Georgia that gathered for the Legislative Rally at the Georgia State Capitol on February 16th, 2016. There was an impressive turnout and local HBA members were able to meet with state legislators and learn about issues important to them that might affect home building. One of the major topics of discussion this year for HBAG members was House Bill 894, enabling legislation for "educational buildings" development impact fees. The bill includes a few new provisions, such as, including school systems where student enrollment is "projected" to experience 15 percent or more growth. It also creates an advisory committee with no acknowledgement of the development community.

Members were welcomed to the Capitol with a brief talk from Howard Maxwell, House Regulated Industries Chair. Governor Nathan Deal took a moment out of his busy day to pose for a picture on the stairs inside the Capitol with all present HBAG members. Members enjoyed Chick-fil-a boxed lunches with the legislators. We are very appreciative to those that were able to make it to the Capitol to participate and to those who contacted their local legislators to invite them to converse and eat lunch with HBAG.

After the rally and lunch, members walked across the street to the Georgia Freight Depot for the Winter Board of Directors meeting. Secretary of State Brian Kemp started off the meeting with a few brief words and updates. Members got down to business and had a very productive meeting. During the meeting the new NAHB Field Representative for the Southeast, Mr. Dave Ashley, was introduced and welcomed.

Thank you again to all of the members that attended this successful Legislative Rally and meeting. HBAG Staff and senior officers greatly appreciate all that you do for the association.
