2016 EDITION OF MANUAL FOR EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL - Approved by the Erosion and Sediment Control Overview Council

The 2016 Edition of the Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control was amended and approved by the Erosion and Sediment Control Overview Council on November 19th, 2015. The approved Manual can be found here, along with more information. There will be upcoming meetings for the general public to learn about and ask questions about the 2016 Edition of the Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control. These meetings are tentatively being scheduled for the following locations: Athens, Atlanta, Calhoun, Statesboro, and Tifton.
The 2016 Edition includes a new process, found in Appendix A-2, in which new BMP's can be submitted to the GSWCC for inclusion on the Equivalent Best Management Practice List. This list is currently compiled from BMP's which have been previously approved by GSWCC and the GADOT prior to January 1st, 2016. The 2016 Edition of the Manual and the Equivalent Best Management Practice List will become effective on January 1, 2016. Additional information and guidance regarding the transition to the 2016 Edition of the Manual will be announced at a later date.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 2016 HBAG MEMBER RALLY- February 16
Please save the date and be sure to join us for the 2016 Winter Board Meeting and Member Rally Day on February 16, 2016. HBAG will be holding a rally at the Capitol prior to lunch and the Board of Directors Meeting.
All HBA members and local executive officers are invited and encouraged to attend this one-day event for the opportunity to meet with the Georgia legislators and discuss the legislative session, as well as ways to assist their community's planning, designing and funding for local housing.
Updates and registration information will be sent out closer to the date. We look forward to seeing you in February!

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISIONER KNOWLES SELECTS STATE CODES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
DCA Commissioner Camila Knowles has selected the State Codes Advisory Committee (SCAC) for the next term. The State Codes Advisory Committee plays a major role in the development and review of the State Construction Codes. The committee is made up of 21 members who are experts in the various codes and who are chosen to represent the diverse interests of citizens, builders, codes enforcement officials, designers, and other groups.Tim Williams, HBAG Past President and National Representative, was reappointed to the State Codes Advisory Committee. HBAG appreciates Tim's valuable leadership in the codes arena.
The Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner and the Commissioner of the Department of Human Resources, or their designees, are ex officio members of the Advisory Committee. The remaining members are appointed by the Commissioner. The SCAC advises the DCA Board on the adoption of any new Code Editions and/or Amendments. The current term for a member is a four-year appointment, from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2019. Commissioner Knowles met with representatives of Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) Resources, Inc., the Building Officials Association of Georgia (BOAG), and the Home Builders Association of Georgia. Read More

HBAG will be participating in The Builder Remodeler Expo in Atlanta at the Cobb Galleria March 7-9, 2016. The Builder Remodeler Expo (BRExpo) is the east coast's meeting place for the building and remodeling industry. 2016 LEWIS CENKER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE MARCH 1, 2016

The Applications for the 2016/2017 Lewis Cenker Scholarships are now being accepted. Deadline for applications is March 1, 2016. The Lewis Cenker Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization created in 1977 by HBAG to honor the late Lewis B. Cenker - an outstanding Georgian and a national industry leader. Scholarships are awarded to qualified students seeking a career directly related to the home building industry.
It is not too late to make your tax deductible contribution to the fund. Call the HBAG office at 404.763.2453 for more information regarding the scholarship and for copies of the contribution forms and scholarship application form.
