HBAG Member Rebate Program

No one likes to leave money on the table. So, what would you think if you could get a rebate for your loyalty to many of the nation's leading product suppliers? Well, now you can! HBAG's Member Rebate Program increases your bottom line. For the minimal effort of informing us about the home construction products you use and when you close on a home or project, you'll be putting money back in your pocket. Both Builder and Remodeler companies, no matter how large or small, qualify for the program, and you are not required to use products from every manufacturer. For more information and to register click here.

The program has recently added a customized excel sheet to help make your claiming process a bit easier! Be sure to check it out! The claim form can be found here.

Like the Member Rebate Program Facebook page for updates and reminders!

2015 CEFGA Career Expo A Huge Success

The 2015 Career Expo held at the Georgia International Convention Center was a huge success! This was the biggest event to date and HBAG representation was able to converse with 7,307 attendees over the course of the two day expo.

HBAG was a part of the Architecture and Construction career cluster. Both associate and builder volunteers from HBAG explained the benefits of membership with the association to passionate students that were enthusiastic about pursuing careers related to the construction industry.

Click here to watch CEFGA's official video that gives a brief overview of the 2015 event.

With more than 300 companies and 800 industry professionals in attendance, the business to business networking was another plus of HBAG's attendance at the 2015 CareerExpo and SkillsUSA State Championship.

We hope that you will join in on the fun next year!

Don't Get Caught Without  a Current "Blue Card"
Education Requirements- NPDES & Erosion Control

As construction activity is increasing and new NPDES Permits are in effect, the following is a reminder of the education and training requirements for what is commonly called "the blue card".

Georgia's Erosion and Sedimentation Act states that for each site on which land disturbing activity occurs, each entity or person acting as either a primary, secondary or tertiary permittee, as defined in the NPDES General Permit, shall have as a minimum one person who is in responsible charge of erosion and sedimentation control activities on behalf of the permittee and meets the applicable education or training certification requirements (Fundamentals Seminar (Level IA)). This is not new, but became effective on May 14, 2007.

The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) recommends, but does not construction_crane.jpg require, that at least two people from each permittee working at a project or site have completed the Fundamentals Seminar (Level IA). In the event that a "certified person" is out due to illness, on vacation or called away on an emergency, then another "certified person" is available on-site to ensure that erosion and sedimentation control issues are under control, regardless of what situation arises. If the "certified person" leaves the site and he/she is the only individual on-site that has completed the Fundamentals Seminar (Level IA), then all land disturbing activities undertaken by that permittee should stop until the "certified person" returns. A "certified person" is an individual who has successfully completed the Fundamentals Seminar (Level IA).

On June 21, 2013, the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Board voted to change the GSWCC's 90-Day Grace Period Re-Certification Policy. Under the new policy, individuals will only have to sit for an initial certification course and pass the certification exam once. GSWCC will renew an individual's certification, even if the individual's initial certification has expired, once the individual has attended at least four (4) hours of continuing education.

Please be aware that this policy change only pertains to an individual's certification status. An individual conducting a land disturbing activity with an expired certification is in noncompliance with O.C.G.A. § 12-7-1 and may be subject to enforcement action.

Check with your local HBA or at www.erosiontraining.com for classes. These CEU's should also count towards your builder license renewal.

Spring Brings the New Hope of an Easier Lifestyle for Empty Nesters

Active Adult Homebuilder, Windsong Properties is a Leader in "A Liveable Lifestyle Home Program"

ATLANTA - MARCH 27, 2015: As the seasons change, nature begins to demand grooming. While the outdoors' beautiful colors and breeze beckons, it's hard not to get overwhelmed and irritated as you walk outside to be greeted by greening grass that seems to grow an inch a day. Offering the joy that comes with included lawn maintenance, Windsong strives to create an easier lifestyle for its adult homebuyers.

A big piece to the easy living formula for the active adult homebuilder is thinking ahead to life's changing seasons. Today might be perfect, but a knee replacement tomorrow can significantly affect your quality of life when you live in a traditional home. That's why the founders of Windsong build thoughtfully designed homes with accessibility features built in - so your home can roll with the punches of an active lifestyle.

"Active adults don't let anything stop them, but a couple of steps just to get into your home is the kind of hassle that isn't necessary," says Carrie Roeger, Windsong's Operations Manager. "Our construction team is headed up by a Certified Aging in Place Specialist who encourages his builders to think ahead and anticipate buyers' needs based on how they plan to live in their home." That means that besides Windsong's included accessibility features, the builders develop a relationship with buyers through the process and physical challenges are met with smart design solutions.

"Windsong builds accessibility features into our homes like wider door- and hallways and safe, step-free entryways - all of which are thoughtful features in any home and can be of benefit to anyone at any age," says Windsong Construction Manager, Mike Shina. "Building homes designed for life's changing situations is just quality design and appreciated by our buyers."

For 11 years now, Windsong has been listening to and building for empty nesters with the goal to improve their quality of life by crafting homes and communities that embrace easy living and change. Windsong is proud to be an ALL homebuilder and encourages other homebuilders to think ahead and build for easy accessibility. ALL stands for "A Liveable Lifestyle Home," a state-wide voluntary certification program that ensures certain design features are present that promote a liveable, accessible lifestyle.

An ALL certified home means that it is a home for people of all ages, and of all abilities, and its features can be integrated in new and renovated homes that span all price points and home types. We invite you to visit Windsong's beautiful communities in Paulding, Cobb, and Cherokee counties, and you could begin to enjoy this easier lifestyle before spring turns to summer!
