 NAHB Envoy Program

NAHB Communication Initiative Program

The NAHB Envoy program is a communication initiative that enlists members like you - NAHB leaders - to help educate all federation members about key issues and the value of NAHB membership. This will help educate all federation members about the wide range of benefits you have as a part of your three-level NAHB membership (local, state, and national) and about the value that NAHB membership brings to your day-to-day business operations.

NAHB will provide Envoys with news and information they can use to communicate with fellow members. We want to make sure members know how to take advantage of the benefits of membership and all the resources available to them.

Learn more or register at www.nahb.org/envoys.

No one likes to leave money on the table. So, what would you think if you could get a rebate for your loyalty to many of the nation's leading product suppliers? Well, now you can! HBAG's Member Rebate Program increases your bottom line. For the minimal effort of informing us about the home construction products you use and when you close on a home or project, you'll be putting money back in your pocket. Both Builder and Remodeler companies, no matter how large or small, qualify for the program, and you are not required to use products from every manufacturer. For more information and to register click here.

The deadline to file your Q2'14 rebate claim is less than 3 weeks away! The 2nd quarter consists of any completed homes or remodeling projects from January - June. Happy Associate Appreciation Month!
"September is Associate Appreciation Month"
By Kevin Kelley, Chairman of the Board NAHB. Courtesy of Michael Kurpiel and Association Maximization

When I decided several
years ago to run for NAHB 3rd vice chairman I did so knowing that I would leave my state association with the full knowledge that we had a great leadership team and loyal volunteers in place. I knew that both builder and associate members would work together to keep Delaware's home building industry on the right path. I also realized that our builders, as sharp and passionate as any I had been engaged with in the past, were only as productive as volunteer leaders as they could be with the help of our associate members. Associates have been, and continue to be, valued partners for our associations back home. As my national volunteer leadership grew, I had the chance to meet associates from around the country and realized that Delaware, while near and very dear to my heart, has great associates, who are equally matched in other states, which is a compliment as Delaware has "rock stars" in the associate ranks.
The loyalty our associates demonstrated during our worst economic event in home building history was amazing. They stayed the course and helped our builder members, the ones who could give time, keep our associations alive. I applaud the associates from all corners of our Federation.
September is Associate Appreciation Month and I would like to take this opportunity and thank you, Associates. Thank you for your efforts, thank you for your commitment and thank you for your passion. I thank you, as a builder for helping me. As NAHB Chairman of the Board I would like all builder members of NAHB to take the time, get to know your associates. Please invite associates to bid your projects. It is a great way of saying "thank you" but more importantly it is a great way of saying "builders and associates; the bond cannot be broken."

September may be Associate Appreciation Month but it truly is a year long, every year way of life for me. Hope hope it is for all of you as well.

Emergency Amendment to IRC

Residential Elevators

Dwayne Garriss, State Fire Marshal, presented SCAC members at the meeting on July 24, 2014 with an emergency amendment to the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) pertaining to elevators in one and two

Neal Davis and Curtis Jenkins (SFM office) building prototype elevator door opening
family dwellings and the clearance between the hoistway and elevator doors, reducing the gap from five inches to a maximum three inch gap.   Fire Marshal had met with HBAG EVP, Kelly Lass and HBAG Vice-President, Neal Davis and Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Bettie Sleeth to develop a cost-effective solution to prevent accidental deaths and injuries to children. Mr. Garriss also discussed the advisory letter sent to homeowners with elevators already installed and the memo sent to elevator companies informing them of the up-coming changes to the code. Tim Williams, HBAG Past President and the home building industry representative, made a motion to adopt the emergency amendment in the interest of child safety to the 2012 edition of the International Residential Code (IRC) by adding a new section R321.1.1. Motion Carried Unanimously.

The issues with the current code requirements were brought to the Fire Marshal's attention as a result of a story of serious injuries to a child in Forsyth County by Investigator Reporter, Dana Fowle of FOX-5 News.
