OSHA SWEEPS GEORGIA
In the Southeast, Raising Awareness About Fall Hazards

The Southeast regional offices of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will increase enforcement efforts aimed at reducing an upward trend in construction-related fall fatalities. Falls are one of the four leading causes of employee fatalities in the Southeast. Beginning Aug. 20, OSHA is identifying sites throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi that may be exposing workers to fall hazards and conducting unannounced inspections at those sites. Additionally, all other hazards in plain sight will be addressed during the inspections. "OSHA's goal is to raise awareness about fall hazards and eliminate those conditions that lead to employee deaths," said Cindy Coe, the agency's regional administrator in Atlanta.

SANDY BODA RECEIVES SMALL OFFICE HONOR AWARD

During NAHB's Association Leadership Conference on August 9th in New Orleans, Georgia's very own, Sandy Boda of the HBA of Midwest Georgia, won the Small Office Honor Award.

Named after the late Executive Officer of the Arrowhead Builders Association (MN), Rachel Manley, this award is presented in recognition of an EO of a small association who has been judged to be an exceptionally effective manager in spite of limited resources.

Sandy has served as Executive Officer for the HBA of Midwest Georgia since 2001. She was hired shortly after 9-11 and was asked to focus on developing community within the association. At that time the association was floundering and in need of direction. Sandy grew the organization from 350 members to 750 members at its high point and the association went from covering just five counties to now including ten counties.

Even though Sandy is the only staff person at the HBA of Midwest Georgia, the members still receive comprehensive benefits including but not limited to; continuing education classes, networking events, a robust government affairs program, golf tournament, newsletters, and community outreach projects.

On the state level Sandy has served as the Georgia Executive Officer Chairperson and won the Georgia Executive Officer of the Year Award in 2005.

Congratulations to Sandy Boda and the HBA of Midwest Georgia!

BEAT 2011 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Join the Beat 2011 Surge!

Thanks to your hard work and dedication, NAHB is getting very close to meeting the goal of "beating" 2011's membership total. This November, NAHB is sponsoring the "Beat 2011 Surge" Fall Membership Drive. Local HBAs will have an opportunity to win cash back for their associations by out-recruiting other HBAs in their size categories. Spikes will be eligible for double Spike Credits on their new member recruits with the opportunity to earn quadruple credits on each new member they recruit more than 10.

Here is how it will work:

  1. Local Associations will sign up here with NAHB  to take part
  2. Local Associations will have Membership Drives and report their results (Builders and Associate Members) to NAHB on November 13th
  3. LOCALS: The Local that recruits the most Builder and Associate Members in their corresponding Membership Size Category will receive $75 times the number of Members recruited during the Drive (so if Memphis Area HBA recruits 100 Builder and Assoc Members and "wins" their size category, they will receive $7,500)
  4.  SPIKE CREDITS - Members who recruit any member during the drive will receive double Spike Credit; those committed Recruiters who recruit 11 or more Members will receive quadruple Spike Credit for all Members recruited over 10 (so if one of your members recruits 15 new members he will receive 40 Spike Credits - 10 members @2x and 5 Members at 4x)
  5. The TOP 50 Spikes from across the country, who excel during the drive, will be recognized at IBS and will receive 2 extra SPIKE PARTY Tickets (a $150 value) at Las Vegas.

Benefits to State and Local Association:

  1. Possibility of an immediate financial impact if the Association wins its size category
  2. We expect this drive will produce double the results of an average November, which means added income to our Locals and State as we gear up for 2013.
  3. A successful BEAT 200 SURGE Drive could be the difference in whether an Association tops 2011 membership levels or not and that alone could bring additional dollars to locals via the Year-Long Beat 2011 Campaign!
  4. This will give our State Spikes the opportunity to shine and recruit members and gain great Spike Credits and $150 Spike Club tickets

Member Rebate

16 Builders/Remodelers have participated and received more than $16,600.00 in Rebates!

Those 16 Builders/Remodelers received a portion of the $16,600.  One member received $5,367.00 for one quarter.  The average check for this quarter was $1,047.00.  That would clearly pay for your dues.

Claiming is easy.  For three projects it should take you about 1 hour to fill out the claim forms and the return could be a check for $1,000.00. Now that's a profitable hour!

Out of the 1,500 HBAG builder/remodeler members only 16 are participating.

Sign-up and spread the word!
