Our services enhance the visitor experience and promote stewardship of Mesa Verde's world-renowned archeological resources and natural landscapes. Proceeds from all Association operations are donated to the park's interpretive, research, and education programs.

The Mesa Verde Foundation (tax ID 84-046967) funds capital improvements, projects, and educational endeavors for Mesa Verde National Park. Our projects include construction of a new Visitor and Research Center near the park's entrance and remodeling the existing Far View Visitor Center into a Tribal Cultures Center to enhance understanding of the connection between the Ancestral Puebloans and contemporary Native American tribes.

Fall Photography Multi-Day Workshop in Mesa Verde National Park

Every year thousands of visitors snap photos of the spectacular, world-famous Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park. To help you capture the best light and perspective of these remarkable structures in either digital or film cameras, the nonprofit Mesa Verde Museum Association is offering a special fall three-day photography workshop led by well known photographer and Northern Arizona University Professor Emeritus Dr. Gene Balzer.

This year the workshop is scheduled for October 11-13, 2013, and is limited to 13 participants to ensure plenty of personalized coaching. It begins at noon on Friday and ends on Sunday afternoon. Tuition includes three days of instruction, two nights in-park motel lodging at the Far View Lodge, and all meals including two dinners at the famed Metate Room Restaurant. For further information or to register, click here or call 800-305-6053. Mesa Verde Association members are eligible for a 20% discount!

Workshop participants will come away with images of several of Mesa Verde's stunning cliff dwellings. Participants will visit sites around the park at times designed to capture ideal lighting conditions, and will work on compositional skills for compelling images. The group will visit some archeological sites at hours when they're closed to the general public, and will also visit Mug House, a beautiful cliff dwelling that is not normally open for visitors. Pacing will be leisurely so everyone gains as much as possible from their experience. Come to Mesa Verde this October for the experience of a lifetime!

DVD: Paving the Way: The National Park-to-Park Highway

On the clear, cloudless morning of August 26, 1920, in the city of Denver, Colorado, twelve American motorists set out on a 5,000 mile, 76-day pilgrimage to all twelve National Parks that existed in 1920. This Park-to-Park Highway was the longest motor route to date—and its roads were not even paved.

PAVING THE WAY: The National Park-to-Park Highway begins with a brief history of the automobile, from its status as a rich man's toy to its remarkable affordability with the invention of Henry Ford's assembly line. Once the average American is able to travel, civic movements such as "See America First" begin to promote tourism within the National Parks, shifting from the railroad to the automobile. The decimation of World War I and the flu pandemic of 1918 hindered this movement, but by 1920, the American public was ready to get out and explore the West.

From Denver to Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone, Glacier, Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake, Lassen Volcanic, Yosemite, General Grant, Sequoia, Zion, the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde and back to Denver, the original twelve travelers of the Park-to-Park Highway in 1920 faced a truly adventurous frontier, which this engaging video documents. The 2-part feature runs for 114 minutes and includes a bonus "making-of" featurette.
