Mesa Verde Artist-in-Residence Jill Haley to Perform New Park-Inspired Music

On Thursday, May 30, musician and composer Jill Haley will be presenting new works she has written about Mesa Verde National Park while living in the park as an Artist-in- Residence. The public is invited to attend this free performance at 3:00 p.m. in the outdoor dining area at Spruce Tree Terrace on Chapin Mesa.

Haley will be joined by guitarist David Cullen; together they will perform new compositions that Haley is writing as she explores different areas of the park during her residency. Haley and Cullen will also perform several pieces about Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Glacier National Parks which Haley wrote after visiting these parks. Haley, an oboist/English horn player and pianist, will play the melodies with David's accompaniment on the guitar.

Haley's oboe and English horn playing draws from classical, folk, and jazz styles, creating a sound that is her own. She can be heard on numerous nationally released CDs by many artists. She also can be heard playing original music with her trio, "One Alternative." Several orchestras also use Haley to perform in their oboe section.

"Mesa Verde Soundscapes" will be the next recording Jill will release after serving as a Mesa Verde National Park Artist-in-Residence. This recording will be the third in her National Park Soundscapes series. The first two are "Glacier Soundscapes," and "Zion and Bryce Canyon Soundscapes."

Mesa Verde National Park's Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program provides professional artists the opportunity to become part of a long established tradition of artists in our national parks. The AIR program is managed by the Mesa Verde Museum Association, the park's innovative educational partner that inspires life-long stewardship of the Mesa Verde region's cultural and natural heritage.
