HPHS students advance to UIL State Academic Meet

After outstanding performances at the regional level, four HPHS students will advance to compete at the UIL State Academic Meet. The HPHS Science team took first place in the UIL 6A Region 2 Academic Meet April 25 at Baylor University. Team members include Robert Luo, Khai-Leif Nguyen-Hille, David Wiegn and Jiamin Zhou, and the team is coached by HPHS chemistry teacher Wenzen Chuang.


Zhou earned the individual gold medal, and posted the highest overall score in Biology. Nguyen-Hille finished in second place and Luo took fourth. The team will advance to compete at the state meet May 26-28 at the University of Texas at Austin.

Wiegn also won the individual gold medal in the Current Issues competition at regionals, and he will advance to compete in that category at the state meet. The team, coached by HPHS Social Studies teacher Cynthia Jones, finished in second place and included Jack Arnold, Raef Rothschild, Annie Vu and Wiegn. 


HPHS junior Kevin Chen posted a top-six individual performance at regionals, taking sixth place in Literary Criticism.
