April Estrada named HPISD Director of Special Programs

April Estrada has been named the new HPISD Director of Special Programs.
Estrada has served as Director of Special Programs in Community ISD since 2010, and she previously served as a district behavior specialist in Garland ISD and as a special education teacher in Garland and Wylie ISDs.
"We are so pleased that April Estrada has accepted the important leadership position as our Special Programs Director," Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Special Programs Gena Gardiner said. "Her expertise is well-respected among her colleagues and peers, and we are excited to welcome her to our HPISD family. April is a leader who seeks new learning and strives to stay current in her field. We know her experience and depth of knowledge will benefit our students, staff and families."
Estrada earned her bachelor's degree from The University of North Texas in 2001 and her master's degree in educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University in 2008. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at DBU with an anticipated graduation date of January 2016.
"I feel extremely blessed to be afforded the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, and families of a nationally recognized school district," Estrada said. "I take great pride in building quality relationships, promoting and inspiring professional growth of all staff, and designing engaging, innovative programs that endorse personal and academic excellence for all students."
She and her husband Peter reside in Lavon with their three children, Makenzie, 14, Kamryn, 9 and Mason, 6.
