Natalie Rathjen wins 3,200-meter track championship  
 

HPHS senior Natalie Rathjen won the UIL individual state title in the 3,200-meter run and took third place in the 1,600-meter run at the UIL 4A state track and field championship meet May 9-10 in Austin. Rathjen posted a time of 10:23.92 in the 3,200 and set a new 4A state meet record.

 

The girls team finished in a three-way tie for seventh place, and junior Gabby Crank took fourth place in the 800-meter run.

 

Senior Andrew Clyde took third place in the shot put for the boys team, and the team finished in 33rd place.

 

"Natalie had a great race plan and executed it very well," Head Girls Track and Field Coach Susan Bailey said. "I am extremely happy for her.  I am glad I had the opportunity to coach her the last four years."

 

 

 

"Natalie finished off an outstanding high school career with a new 4A state record in the 3,200 and a personal best in the 1,600," Athletic Director Johnny Ringo said. "We appreciate all of her efforts these past four years and are thankful for the great example she has set for her teammates.  We wish her the best as she continues her academic and athletic career at Princeton."
