HPHS Head Volleyball Coach Michael Dearman posted his 500th career win Sept. 20 with a district 10-4A victory over Terrell. Players, parents, colleagues and fans celebrated with Dearman and his family on the court after the win.

Dearman joined HPISD in 2004 and has amassed a 500-187 record over his 18-year career, winning more than 70 percent of nearly 700 high school matches.

"All coaches have memorable moments and milestones throughout their careers, but 500 victories places Coach Dearman in elite company," HPISD Athletic Director Johnny Ringo said. "These victories represent an outstanding career and a dedication to winning with class, integrity, and character.  We appreciate all that Coach Dearman has done for Highland Park volleyball, his players, and our community!  Thanks, Coach, for some great memories!"

The Lady Scots have received a top-10 ranking by the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A poll every year Dearman has led the team, and he received District Coach of the Year honors for the third time last year.

Under Dearman, the Lady Scots have been:
  • District champions four times
  • Regional quarter-finalist three times
  • Regional semi-finalist three times
  • Regional Champions and State Finalists in 2008

"At the game Friday night, I was very touched and surprised when I saw so many of my former players there, including those from my very first win 18 years ago," Dearman said.  "The relationships that I have made over the years with players, parents and coaches has meant the most to me. I am proud of winning 500 matches, but the friendships forged and positive impact on other people's lives has been the most rewarding part."

The Lady Scots are off to a great start in 2013, with an overall record of 25-6 and are currently ranked third in the UIL Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A poll.  The team placed seventh in the 79-team Pearland High School volleyball tournament (the largest high school volleyball tournament in the country) and had the best finish of any 4A team.  The Scots also placed fourth in the 40-team Northwest ISD Invitational Tournament and fourth in the 36-team Frisco Tournament.

Congratulations to Coach Dearman and the Lady Scots!
