President Bush pays surprise visit to students on first-day tour

Seven HPISD students were among the first 43 visitors at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and you can imagine their delight when the former president himself greeted them in the Oval Office room.

"Welcome to the Oval Office," he said. "You're our first guests, and we're thrilled you're here."

Bush visited with 43 Dallas-area school children for more than 30 minutes, covering subjects ranging from a typical day at the White House to the profound role faith has played in his life.

One student from every HPISD campus was selected by the principal to be a part of "The First 43 Tour." They are:
  • Armstrong fourth-grader Paige Selby
  • Bradfield fourth-grader Beau Raley
  • Hyer fourth-grader Whitney Bixby
  • UP fourth-grader Erin Parolisi
  • MIS sixth-grader Ryan Khetan
  • HPMS eighth-grader Charlotte Lutz
  • HPHS senior Robert McIntosh

Bush said that he intentionally requested that the first visitors be school children - not dignitaries or donors - because he wants the Bush Center to be a place of learning.
