Congratulations to Our Award Winners!

As we look ahead to all that is to come in 2013, we paused to look at all the things we accomplished in 2012.  The DECI Annual Awards Banquet held last week at Houligans was also a time to honor and thank all who've contributed to our successes.  We thank the sponsors of all of our events-events like the Jumpstart Business Plan Competition, the Our City Spring Clean Up, Summer Fest, the International Fall Festival, and Christmastime in the City.  We thank the volunteers that help us at those events.  We thank our 'partners'-Xcel Energy, RCU, General Beer Northwest, the Mayo Clinic Health System, Festival Foods, the Eau Claire Area Sports Commission, and Eau Claire Ford Lincoln, for their immeasurable contributions and financial support. We thank all of the business owners who choose to be a part of our Downtown community.  And we thank everyone who supports Downtown merchants and organizations.
About 500 people voted in many categories and we awarded 11 different awards to very deserving people, businesses, and events.

Local Historian Answers Questions

"Writers Read:  Franks for Asking" will be held at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire on Tuesday evening, March 12. The program will feature Frank Smoot, who writes and edits the history column "Thanks for Asking" in the local culture magazine "Volume One."

Smoot will read from his works that respond to questions he's been asked as well as original works that address questions yet to be asked about local historical places and events.

The free program begins at 7 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.

"Writers Read" is a monthly library presentation organized by Eau Claire's Poet Laureate, Bruce Taylor.  Each reading features original poetry and prose written by writers living and working in the Chippewa Valley.

Next month's session, scheduled for April 9, will be an open reading to which area residents may bring their original material to read.  The May 14 event, "Our Long Goodbye," will feature readings by local author Patti See from her award-winning blog about her family's experience with Alzheimer's.
