Heart of Eau Claire
"Preparing for Reconstruction"
"Be patient!," is a one of the messages Denise Sonnemann of Main Street Marshfield relayed at the Heart of Eau Claire, "Preparing for Reconstruction" event last Wednesday. Marshfield underwent construction in 2009 that shut down that city's Central Avenue for four months. Sonnemann gave advice and talked about how business owners there made it through the construction period, even without any business closing. She gave downtown business leaders things to think about right now, including: cleaning up back door entrances and having customers start using them now to get used to the change; put the business name and address on the back door for emergency crews; light alleys; and plan worthwhile promotions. Sonnemann also says it's important to stay positive and reflect a positive attitude to customers.
City of Eau Claire Director of Public Works Brian Amundson and Transportation Engineer talked about things like how parking matters will be addressed and city programs that business owners can take advantage of.
DECI also celebrated its 10th anniversary with cake at the event held at Pizza Plus!

Eau Claire Recognized as a Leading Location for Economic and Job Growth
Area Development, an executive publication covering site-selection, facility planning, and relocation, recently ranked Eau Claire 61st out of 365 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) in the United States for Economic and Job Growth.
The study used 23 economic and workforce indicators that originated from three sources: the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the U.S. Census American Community Survey. Some indicators include prime workforce, job growth, wage and salary growth, unemployment rate, and per capital GDP.
In the "Recession-Busting Cities" category for mid-sized cities, Eau Claire ranked an impressive 8th place overall, demonstrating our resiliency in productivity during a recession. The study states, " The top performers (in this category) include many Midwest cities that... are now creating jobs and attracting business as U.S. manufacturing comes back shore." City of Eau Claire Economic Development Director, Mike Schatz, says, "Eau Claire continues to progress in economic and job growth by its ability to attract high quality businesses to the area and help current businesses expand."
