Gratitude

This year we begin celebrating 15 years of service.  I cannot find the words to express the gratitude I feel for all of the love, blessings, support, and compassion that you have shown me, our staff, our consumers and our families. 

At the end of 1999 when I was about to give up in this venture of starting Georgia's first bilingual licensed and accredited behavioral health center I sat at my desk in my 200 square feet office in Doraville and asked God for guidance.  You see, we had started CETPA with our savings and for the first 18 months we had not been able to find anyone to fund our clinic, primarily because no one had ever done it and I had no track record of the efficiency of culturally and linguistically appropriate services in Georgia.

I said, "Lord if I heard you wrong, if I misunderstood the message and I am not supposed to open a facility for those suffering from addiction and mental illness who also have limited English proficiency and different cultural understanding of these illnesses, please send me a sign." 

I went home that night, it was about 11 pm, I kissed my wife, my 3 year old daughter and 1 year old son and went to bed.  The next morning I went to my office at 8 am and found three nuns with five Spanish speaking consumers in need of counseling and a check for $2,500.00.  Since that day I have never doubted that my mission, my calling, was to start CETPA.  I have kept that faith through all of the ups and downs over the past 15 years; through all of the unprecedented growth and the many, many, many changes we have experienced in the behavioral world we live in.

What you may not know is that it was you (wonderful staff, board, clients, funders, family and friends) who helped me keep that faith.  You were placed in my life to help me when I was down; to lift my spirits when I wanted to give up; and to give me those words of encouragement when I could not find the strength to give them to myself.

That first 'contract' opened up a new world of possibilities and the rest as they say its history.

So as you can see, 'thank you' is nowhere near enough to truly express my eternal gratitude for all you have done, whether you know it or not, for CETPA.

We hope to have our 15 year celebration in 2015 and look forward to seeing you and honoring you in person.

Este año comenzamos celebrando 15 años de servicio a la comunidad Latina. No puedo encontrar las palabras para expresar la gratitud que siento por todo el amor, las bendiciones, el apoyo y la compasión que me han demostrado a mí, a nuestro personal, a nuestros clientes y a nuestras familias.

A finales del 1999, cuando estaba a punto de tirar la toalla en esta aventura de abrir la primera clínica bilingüe licenciada y acreditada para proveer servicios de consejería para la salud mental y las adicciones en Georgia, me senté en mi escritorio en mi pequeña oficina de 200 pies cuadrados en Doraville y le pedí a Dios que me guiara. Mi esposa y yo habíamos empezado CETPA con nuestros ahorros y por los primeros 18 meses no habíamos encontrado manera para financiar nuestra clínica, principalmente porque nunca nadie lo había hecho y yo no tenía manera de demonstrar el éxito de  proveer servicios de consejería a este nivel una manera cultural y lingüísticamente adecuada en Georgia.

Dije: "Señor, si te oí mal, si no entendí bien el mensaje y no estoy supuesto a abrir una clínica de servicio para aquellos que sufren de la adicción y la enfermedad mental, que también tienen una habilidad limitada Inglés y diferente entendimiento cultural de estas enfermedades, por favor envíame una señal ".

Salí de la oficina y me fui a casa como a las 11 de la noche, besé a mi esposa, a mi hijita de 3 años y a mi hijo de un año y me acosté a dormir. A la mañana siguiente fui a mi oficina a las 8 de la mañana y encontré tres monjitas, con cinco personas de habla hispana que necesitaban ayuda y un cheque por $ 2,500.00. Desde ese día nunca he dudado de que mi misión, mi vocación, era crear CETPA. He podido mantener la fe a través de todos los retos que hemos tenido durante los últimos 15 años; a través de todo el crecimiento de la clínica y los muchos, muchos, muchos cambios que hemos pasado en el mundo de servicios públicos en el que vivimos.

Lo que ustedes no saben es que fueron ustedes (el maravilloso personal de CETPA, la mesa directiva, nuestros clientes y sus familias, proveedores de fondos, familiares y amigos) los que me ayudaron a mantener esa fe. Ustedes fueron puestos en mi vida para que me ayudaran cuando estaba decaído; para levantarme el ánimo cuando quise renunciar; y para darme esas palabras de aliento cuando no podía encontrar la fuerza para dármelas a mí mismo.

Ese primer "contrato" con las monjitas abrió un nuevo mundo de posibilidades y el resto, como dicen es historia.

Como pueden ver, el decir 'gracias' no es en absoluto suficiente para expresar verdaderamente mi eterna gratitud por todo lo que han hecho por CETPA, aunque usted lo sepa o no.

Esperamos tener nuestra celebración de 15 años en el 2015 y esperamos verlos para poder agradecerles en persona.
