The Colorado Rockies are my favorite place on the planet. After 3 years of dreaming about taking a "summer sabbatical" to work & play out west, I finally did it! Yay! (Side note: for a link to vetted charities helping victims in Colorado, please scroll to the bottom of the email).

For the most part, I truly disconnected. 4x4 off-roading, whitewater rafting, horseback riding... you get the idea. Here's the crazy part (and the reason for my email): my summer was TRIPLY profitable over last summer (during which, incidentally, I did NOT take a vacation).

This got me really clear on something: when I limit the amount of time available for work, I'm WAY more productive (not to mention profitable).

Speaking of which, it amazes me how easily I can get sidetracked from paying attention to the profit side of business. Upon returning from my holiday, I found myself right back in the quagmire of emails, voicemails, networking events, lunch meetings, coffee meetings, yadda-yadda... only 20% of which (maybe) are even relevant to my bottom line.

Now I know that not everything revolves around making money. Really. But I have a family, friends and a much-ignored art studio (not to mention a serious need to get my ever-expanding you-know-what to some dance classes) that need tending to, so if I have free time, I want to spend it on those things first.

So let's be real: business is about making money. Sure there are other considerations, passions, reasons for and benefits of business ownership, but the primary purpose of a business is to generate a profit

Are you generating the income you could and should from your business? If not, you're not alone. The 2010 US Census shows that women-owned businesses earn just 55 CENTS on the dollar compared to men-owned businesses.

That's why the next Women's Success Summit theme is "SHOW ME THE MONEY." This November 13th - 14th (and 15th, for those of you who want a VERY special experience), we're going to SHOW YOU THE MONEY. Guaranteed. Check it out... www.WomensSuccessSummit.com.
