Door County:  From A to Z!
This month's feature: P and Q

The "Door County: From A to Z" series continues this month with more ideas for enjoying the Peninsula.

Peninsula State Park is not only for campers and hikers. It's also for golfers, who play the Peninsula State Park Golf Course.  Oh, and travelers must take a hard look at quarry park.

Peninsula State Park Golf Course: This 18-hole course is part of Peninsula State Park and offers golfers well-maintained fairways as well as spectacular views of the Niagara Escarpment and forests of white cedar, oak, beech and maple trees.

Don't miss historical points of interest including a 40-foot memorial pole standing at the ninth fairway. It's dedicated Newport Resort Banner to the Potawatomi Nation. They occupied Door County in the 1800s. Nearby is a large marker dedicated to Chief Kahquados, the last chief of Potawatomi Nation.

Golfers enjoy teeing off from one hole on a Door County cliff and traversing down about 60 feet from there. Players also have an opportunity to ring a course bell, signaling to others they are out of range and it's OK for a tee off.
The course, 9890 Shore Rd., Ephraim, has a restaurant, pro shop, putting practice green, club rentals and offers golf lessons.  It's within Peninsula State Park, which is dubbed "Wisconsin's most complete park." Along with the golf course, it has 468 campsites, a sand beach, biking and hiking trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of shoreline.

Quarry County Park:  Olde Stone Quarry County Park is a relatively new park. It was completed in August 2006 and sits on nine acres at 4879 Bay Shore Drive (Cty. Rd. B) in Sturgeon Bay.

Check out the stunning use of stone. Facilities include a boat launch, fishing pier, pavilion, picnic area and parking. Celebrate Door County's geology by visiting this county park.
