Escape to Door County!
April Edition!

Here are some April picks for places to stay and enjoy in Door County, Wisconsin.  This is a wonderful time of year to begin planning Door County excursions. Here are some of our many ideas for enjoying this northeast Wisconsin peninsula.

Overnight:  Enjoy spacious accommodations and a location within walking distance to shops and more when you choose the Hilltop Inn, 3908 Cty. F in Fish Creek, for your Door County vacation.

Hilltop Inn offers 19 two-story townhouses. So you can wander around in your own home away from home-each two-story unit has 950 square feet.

Each townhome features a full kitchen, living room with gas fireplace, two bedrooms outfitted with queen-size beds (and there's a sofa-sleeper in living area.)  Other amenities: a half-bath on first floor and a full bath on second floor and a private deck on the ground level.

"Why stay in a hotel room when you can stay here for the same price and have a whole townhome?" says Kelly Christensen, general manager at Hilltop Inn.

The property is situated across the street from the sprawling Top of the Hill shops and the Door Community Auditorium. Guests will also find it convenient to get to Peninsula State Park, which is only three and one-half blocks away or to downtown Fish Creek.  Arroyo Bay Grill is a restaurant next door.

Kelly said Hilltop Inn is redecorating the townhouses with new carpeting, bedding and valances. The property celebrates 20 years of service in Door County this year, and a variety of specials will be posted throughout 2014 on the Web site, http://www.hilltopinndc.com

You can also find Hilltop Inn and other fine places to stay in Fish Creek and other peninsula locales at DoorCountyNavigator.com

Food and wine: Speaking of Arroyo Bay Grill, we found out a little about them. Located at 3931 Hwy. 42, Fish Creek, this restaurant, promotes Mexican and American food as Newport Resort Banner well as homemade pizza.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served, and there's a full-service outdoor patio, too.

If you're on-the-go, ask about their "picnic" packages. This restaurant is managed by the people of Summer Kitchen, Nino and Armando Jauregui.  We have a full Trusted Review and video too - where you can "meet" Nino!

Must see/do  Blossoms bloom in Door County from early spring to late fall. Depending on the weather, you can see different blooms at different times with the iconic cherry blossoms in all their glory in May. So, plan a hike or drive through the country and keep your eyes peeled on natural occurrences.

Chic shopping: Tannenbaum Holiday Shop is housed in a repurposed church building at 11054 Hwy. 42, Sister Bay. Wander around the two levels to find dcor for any time of the year as well as floral arrangements, garden accessories, jewelry and more.  They are promoting new Dept 56 pieces as well as Byers Choice personally signed items arriving later this month.  Full Trusted Review and Video!

For arts lovers:   Soo Hoo Artwear will show the artist's fiber art at wearable art shows coming to Door County's Sister Bay Village Hall on July 24, 25 and 26; Aug. 23 and 24, and Oct. 4 and 5. Soo Hoo Artwear is creating new cotton-polyester tunics and more.

Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) is not just a venue for winter performing arts. The playhouse, located on historic Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, has announced a summer-fall season of shows taking place in its intimate 84-seat theater as well as on the main stage.

"Talley's Folly," runs July 2 to 25.  This is a play about a lyrical romance following an unlikely courtship of Sally Talley Egg Harbor Lodge Banner and her Jewish suitor, Matt Friedman. It's set in 1944 and unfolds magically in a Victorian boathouse on the banks of the Missouri River.

Next, running July 30 to Aug. 24, is "Trick Boxing, a show combining theater, physical comedy, dance and puppetry and boxing routines to tell a story of boxer who meets a dancer.

A stand-up comic, Will Durst, performs in "BloomeRaging:  From LSD to OMG," from run Aug. 26 to 30.  Durst "brings his one-man tribute to history, growth, joys, achievements, fashions and doom of the Baby Boom generation," TAP announced.

"Private Lives" runs Sept. 4 to 26. It's a play about two people, once married, and now honeymooning with new spouses. Sparks ignite in the form of love and anger.

Then, "The Fantasticks," a funny musical about a boy, girl, two fathers and a wall, runs Oct. 1 to 19.

For more information on the shows and performance times and costs, call TAP, 239 N. Third Ave. Sturgeon Bay, at 920-743-1760.
