Here are some February picks for places to stay and enjoy in Door County, Wisconsin.

Overnight: This may be the ideal time to stay at Bay Shore Inn, 4205 Bay Shore Dr., Sturgeon Bay. This popular waterfront inn has suites affording guests with sunset views over Green Bay waters. So, it's not so easy to book a room in the middle of July.

But come now, and take advantage of seasonal values while enjoying the ambiance of this sprawling award-winning historic inn that has preserved its character while adding comfortable guest amenities and conveniences. Each suite has a separate bedroom with king-size bed, two-person Jacuzzi and a fully equipped kitchen with new granite counter tops and wireless Internet access.

And the current offers include the Winter Wonderland Wine Trolley Tour package, which is available on Friday-Saturday nights through March 29. You get a one-bedroom waterview suite, a $25 gift certificate for use at Door County businesses, trolley pick-up up for travel to two local wineries, a sleigh ride and a fireside lunch at the English Inn. The cost is $338.

Still another offer at Bay Shore Inn now is a third night free when you stay two nights through May.

Learn more about Bay Shore Inn and out other fine places to stay at Door County this winter at DoorCountyNavigator.com.

Food & wine: Warm bread satisfies any time of year, but it is especially appealing right now. So, it's a good thing that MacReady Artisan Bread is open year-round at 7836 Hwy. 42, Egg Harbor (check hours in advance).  The main attraction here is the artisan bread-created in small batches (no more than 12 loaves at a time) with quality Scandinavian Lodge Banner ingredients.  MacReady Artisan Breads are Italian Semolina, Multigrain Happy Hippie Bread, Bagel Bread, French Country, Caraway Rye, Cinnamon Raison and others.

Michael and Jenny MacReady make the daily breads as well as hearty soups, sandwiches, pecan sticky buns and more. Learn more about them at MacReady Artisan Bread.

Must-see/do: The folk concert series at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek continues this winter and spring with performances by Nora Jane Struthers and the Party Line Feb. 19, Rita Hosking March 12 and Red Molly April 19.   Learn more at http://www.whitegullinn.com.

Chic shopping: Everyone loves a sale-especially one that marks down quality clothing.  On Deck, with creatively decorated stores in Fish Creek, Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay, is promoting half-off some merchandise including clothing, footwear, outwear and accessories.

For arts lovers The Meadows Art Gallery, in a unique location at Scandia Village in Sister Bay, is showing this month the work of an Ephraim couple who have made art for most of their adult lives.  Loraine and Don Brink share creative statements in most traditional art forms and media, but the commonality is that "all creations were made for art's sake first," the gallery said.

Something to do:

Door Community Auditorium open this winter

Main stage events, coffeehouse-style concerts and lectures going on

Some venues in Door County never close; one of them is the Door Community Auditorium, which is hosting main stage events, coffeehouse-style concerts and lectures this winter and early spring.

Read on to learn what is coming soon to this popular Fish Creek arts center:

A Feb. 16 event promises to take audiences back "to a time lone gone."  "The Door County Opry" will bring an afternoon of country, gospel and bluegrass music to the main stage 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.

Looking to Saturday, Feb. 22, two events are taking place at the Door Community Auditorium.  As part of this venue's Distinguished Lecture Series, Dr. Jamie O'Brien will speak on Newport Resort Banner "Does National Culture Matter in Management?" at 9 a.m.

O'Brien is an assistant professor of management on the St. Norbert College Business Administration faculty.

He will address five dimensions of national culture that have an impact on how organizations might manage most effectively across countries:  power distance, individualism masculinity, uncertainty avoidance and long-versus short-term focus.

And at 7 p.m. Feb. 22, the auditorium's lobby-outfitted with a fireplace where small concerts take place-will bring together Door County poets and musicians under the banner Words on Fire. The local artists will perform music and verse, and a bonus feature is Al DeGenova returning to the county with his saxophone and words on fire, according to the Door Community Auditorium staff.

Coming to the Door Community Auditorium's main stage is Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, an Emmy-award company based in Chicago and performing in Door County 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6.

The Jump Rhythm Jazz Project reportedly "celebrates the communal core of jazz performance-dancing, singing and storytelling in rhythmically syncopated conversations to the beat-driven sounds of the blues, swinging jazz, funk, hip-hop and world music."

Later this spring, Door Community Auditorium will present Tent Show Radio LIVE with Michael Perry and Big Top Chautauqua's Blue Canvas Orchestra at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25.

The show features New York Times best-selling author Perry (who is also a songwriter, radio host and amateur pig farmer) along with Big Top's Blue Canvas Orchestra and special guests.

Door Community Auditorium is located at 3926 Hwy. 42, Fish Creek.  Information about tickets and details on the auditorium's schedule are available by visiting the box office or by calling 920/868-2728.
