Egg Harbor Lodge!

When you're looking for a place for just the two of you to stay, think about Egg Harbor Lodge, situated in a convenient and pretty Door County location. We recently caught up with Sarah Sawyer, who (together with her husband, Mark) owns and operates Egg Harbor Lodge, 7965 Hwy. 42, Egg Harbor.

Q. What are some of the unique features of Egg Harbor Lodge?

Sarah: Our small 25-unit motel caters to adults. I think our most unique feature is that all our units have a great view of the water, and we see amazing sunsets. Another great feature is we are within walking distance to town.

Q. Please share details on amenities.

Sarah: We have an outdoor pool, indoor whirlpool, bikes to borrow, a putting green, tennis court and a quarter-mile fitness trail.

Q. What are your favorite places to recommend to guests?

Sarah: I am the Door County Food and Wine Insider, so I love to steer guests in the right direction on that perfect place to eat or get a glass of wine.

Egg Harbor has an outstanding public beach and we are also huge fans of the free music on Sunday nights at the Peg Egan outdoor amphitheater in Egg Harbor (see related story below in Navigator News).

Q. Any upcoming events that you care to plug?

Sarah: On August 17, Egg Harbor's streets will be lined with cool cars as our Door County Sports and Classic car show will be going on. Even if you aren't a car lover you can't help but be amazed at the collection.

By Donna Marie Pocius

It's easy to plan to go to a free concert. After all, there are no tickets to purchase in advance. Just find a musician or group who suits your fancy, pack a tote with snacks and beverages and bring lawn chairs or a blanket.

Here are some of the upcoming free concerts in Egg Harbor at the Peg Egan Performing Arts Center on ChurchThe Shallows Resort Banner Street (just east of the Main Street Shops). They begin at 7 p.m. on Sundays and include:

July 21: Dailey & Vincent, who received a Grammy Award nomination in 2011 for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. They won the 2011 Dove Award for Best Bluegrass Album with "Singing from the Heart."

August 4: Greencards-a group that has reportedly won steadily escalating acclaim for its multi-dimensional Americana vision.

August 11: Flamenco Night featuring music and dance of Kimball & Fernandez.

August 18: Blues Night with Lloyd Jones, who has recorded six critically acclaimed albums, toured nationally and racked up dozens of major awards.

You can also hear free music during Music in the Garden, a Newport Resort Banner free concert series at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the Ministry Door County Medical Center greenspace on 16th Ave.

Coming soon are 100% Natural on July 23 and a concert featuring Corky Siegel, Sue Demel and Dorothy Scott on July 30. For more information, call 920-493-5979.

Door County Happenings

Here are some recent Door County Happenings!

There's a lot happening now.  Take a look:

Spot, featuring men's and women's clothing, accessories and handcrafted Wisconsin pieces, opened Memorial Day weekend at 10647 N. Bay Shore Drive, Sister Bay.

Papal, with sales of cards and gifts, is a new Egg Harbor shop. Also in Egg Harbor, Kim's Boutique was new last Scandinavian Lodge Banner year and is in the Main Street Shops; and Patricia Shoppe has expanded.

The Bayview Bridge reopened Friday, June 28. It had been closed since March 5 for construction updates.

In the outdoor garden of Bjorklunden, Door Shakespeare is featuring performances of "Macbeth" and "Love's Labour's Lost" through Aug. 17.

In Sturgeon Bay, Third Avenue Playhouse's Stage Door Theatre season features: "The Glass Menagerie" through July 19; "Greater Tuna" July 24 to Aug. 19; "The House of Blue Leaves" Aug. 21 to Sept 13; and "The 39 Steps" Sept 18 to Oct 20.

John Henry's in Egg Harbor (at Stonehedge Golf Course), closed its doors in March.  John H knows how to make great food - we will miss it.  He is now bartending, and waiting tables at Gibraltar Grill.  Great guy.

Rumors: we also have heard on the street that there will be a brewery opening in Baileys Harbor, and a new restaurant in Sister Bay to replace one that recently closed (Sister Bay Café).

Remember, you heard it here first!
