Parkwood Lodge

When you see s'mores kits being sold at the front desk, you know you have chosen a lodge that is perfect for the family and anyone who loves the outdoors.

Parkwood Lodgeis located in Fish Creek just north of the downtown area and south of Ephraim's picturesque harbor.  The lodge-with diverse accommodations in four buildings-sits on nine acres. So you have of a feeling of being away from it all even though you are near Door County attractions.

The owners, who took over the property (formerly known as Beowulf Lodge) in 2008, continue to put their own mark on the place.  A wonderful indoor pool was remodeled right away in spring 2008. More recently, the lobby and game room (with pool table, pinball machines, video games) were remodeled with new paint color and carpeting.

A new bonfire pit has become a popular outdoor gathering spot-hence the sale of smores kits at the front desk.

New landscaping is sprucing up the area between the indoor pool and rooms. And this is more thanParkwood Lodge 2010 banner just a pretty  walkway. Guests can relax in the space, complete with a peaceful and pretty fish pond.

Parkwood Lodge has many affordable accommodations.  Some have a king-size bed. Others are set up with two queen-size beds.  Suites, accommodations with kitchenettes and lodge rooms are available.  Rooms in the Birch Building have just been outfitted with new room-darkening window treatments and new bed linens.

Upcoming autumn specials include one called "So Delicious"-a partnership with the English Inn. Also, a package with American Folklore Theatre for their fall show at Peninsula State Park is planned.

Here's Something to Do!

 Corn Fest Coming!

Now, here's something you won't find in the city or burbs: a corn fest complete with a corn maze, corn and pie eating contests and prizes.

Schopf's Hilltop Dairy is hosting Corn Fest from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the dairy farm, 5169 Cty. Rd. I,

Sturgeon Bay (one mile east of Carlsville). The event benefits Sunshine House, Sturgeon Bay.

Schopf's Hilltop Dairy, home of the Dairy View Country Store, is promoting "fun for the entire family" at this year's Corn Fest.

A highlight of the event is the grand corn maze, which has a theme of "Cookie for President," this year. The massive maze was creatively carved through about 10 miles of cornfields and offers participants three different trails.

Cookie the cow is Dairy View's mascot, depictedBridgeport Waterfront Resort   in advertising and a tall cow monument on the Schopf Hilltop Dairy farm property. The maze design shows the beloved  Cookie standing behind a podium as farm animals cheer her on, waving the flag. The backdrop is the U.S.

"We decided we wanted to teach the kids about political things going on this year. And we figured Cookie would be a good candidate, and we ran with it. Her tagline is 'Mootivate America.'  We've been having a lot of fun," said Roxanne Schopf, co-owner of Dairy View, which has been designing mazes on its rural property since 2001.

Corn Fest fun continues with sweet corn and pie eating contests and a corn caf, where people can buy corn on  the cob, hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, cookies and more.

Rounding out the event are a bake sale, live music and children's games.  More information is available by calling Sunshine House, 920-743-7943.
