It seems nothing can stop Frank from rising to national office, and he's got his sights set on a senate seat in November.
But as the season gets underway at the family estate on Cape Cod, Tiny struggles to maintain the glossy façade on which the Hardcastle family's ambitions are built and begins to suspect that Frank is hiding a reckless entanglement of his own...one that may unravel both her own ordered life and her husband's promising career.

Kim Roderiques
Sunday July 12th
2-3pm
Please come meet photographer Kim Roderiques! She will be talking about and signing copies of her fabulous new book, Dogs on Cape Cod, which features over 225 beautiful photos of dogs of all ages and breeds enjoying the natural beauty of our area. This is such an adorable book - what a great gift for the dog lover in your life! The event is free, book price $29.95
Kim Roderiques in her own words:
"I've lived in Chatham since 1975, the town where my father was born and raised, and I've always been a little bit obsessed with dogs. This book only began, though, when a dear friend arrived on the Cape with her new puppy, a Cavalier King Charles, named Murphy. From the first moment I photographed him, I began to see the Cape in a very different light; I saw it through Murphy's eyes. His wonderment of seeing everything for the very first time made it evident how much he loved his home... My hope is that Dogs on Cape Cod captures the joy the Cape has to offer every kind of dog." - Kim Roderiques

Naturalist Peter Trull
The Gray Curtain; The Impact of Seals, Sharks, and Commercial Fishing on the Northeast Coast
Tuesday, July 28 at 7pm
Sandwich Public Library
Cape Cod Naturalist Peter Trull will give a presentation describing the interrelationships between commercial fishing, expanding gray seal populations, and great white sharks along the beaches of Cape Cod and the northeast coast. There are great transformations taking place in the region, and both fishermen and scientists have played a role in these dynamic coastal changes, though they don't always agree on why the changes have occurred. In the minds of many commercial fishermen, the return of the now-protected gray seal has played a major part, causing a new charismatic, predator to enter the picture: the Great White Shark.
Peter has been involved in coastal research and education for over 35 years, and has served as Education Director at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies. He currently teaches at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School. This is her third book on Cape Cod natural history.

The Flying Circus by Susan Crandall
From Fran: Pour a tall cold glass of ice tea, find a comfortable spot and take a trip back in time to the 1920s. The Flying Circus tells the story of three dare devils who meet by chance while running away from their pasts at maximum speed. Cora, Henry and Gil get on board America's new passion and take to the skies, doing stunts in the clouds and racing biplanes. Susan Crandall does a fabulous job of developing these three characters, their stories and this odd family unit. You will swear at times you can hear the planes overhead and the jeers of the crowds. You will be holding your breath hoping they don't crash literally or figuratively. Then at times you will feel like slapping some sense into them but all along loving these three loners. Ms. Crandall's, previous novel Whistling Past the Graveyard was a shop favorite.

Abandoned in 1942 on the eve of the Nazi occupation and frozen in time, Marthe de Florian's apartment overflowed with treasures from the Belle Epoque era. A Paris Apartment presents two stories - one of the apartment and its owner, and the other of the art appraiser. Two fascinating women - a great escape of a novel! The Remedy for Love by Bill Roorbach
Recommended by Karen and Kathy:
Eric is a middle-aged "small-town lawyer with no cases," struggling with separation and lost love, when he lays eyes on a young woman named Danielle in the supermarket line who's just such a mess. Seeing her struggling to walk home in the snow, he offers her a ride and helps her into her isolated cabin. Set against the backdrop of a howling Maine blizzard, the story never takes an expected or easily anticipated turn. Eric makes a project of Danielle, a project that brings some glimmer of meaning into his life. But Danielle wants no part of being his project. "I'm sure I lied," she tells Eric in one typical exchange. And so she has, though she has her reasons, which we learn as Roorbach's superbly grown-up love story unfolds. We loved this book! Kathy read it last year during a howling wind storm and Karen read it during one of our snow storms - each perfect atmospheres! But we also think it is a perfect book to read on a summer day! $15.95

Dory (known to her family as "Rascal") is spunky, determined and is filled with imagination - and she's often in trouble! She sees a girl named Rosabelle at school - could this be her real true friend? Can Dory be herself to find a friend? Perfectly illustrated with child-like drawings. From Vicky: Looking for a perfect book for someone just ready for chapter books? This is a very funny story of a very imaginative, energetic and talkative 6 year old girl. Dory lives with her family in a house filled with her imaginary monster friends. She pretends to be a dog, but what she wants most of all is to play with her older brother and sister, who keep treating her like a baby. The Curious World of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly
From Vicky: Such exciting news!! This month, a second Calpurnia Tate book is finally arriving! Callie is the only girl in a family of 6 rambunctious boys living in Texas in 1900. She loves to study the natural world with her gruff beloved grandfather and is coming of age in a world that doesn't encourage a young lady to have a career or study science. Callie and her grandfather predict the Galveston Hurricane, whose impact reaches even to their home 200 miles away as they take in refugees from the flood. One refugee is Callie's 17 year old cousin who is traumatized by her experiences and is now a difficult addition in Callie's life. The other is a veterinarian, Dr. Pritzker. Callie convinces the vet to allow her to assist him despite his reservations about this being an unsuitable job for a girl. This is a great read filled with wonderful characters. There's humor, too, as Callie's brother Travis desperately seeks a pet from a slew of inappropriate choices, including an armadillo. Kelly's earlier book, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, won a Newbery Honor award and is a staff favorite.
Ages 10-14 $16.99 (available July 7)
