 Falling in Love... with Books!
Do you remember the first book you read that made you fall in love with reading? The one that whisked you away to a foreign land or time, made you swoon, had you laughing or crying out loud, or changed your opinion. Perhaps it was the moment you were given a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird as a reading assignment in school. At first you may have groaned about having to read something which seemed so serious, but then you opened the first page and learned of Jem's broken arm, and you were immediately engrossed and invested in Scout's family's story.
The instant someone recommends a book that falls outside your comfort zone, and you accept the challenge to read it, that is when you know you have fallen in love with books.
We invite you to share your love story with books on our Facebook page. How did your story begin? Maybe you can inspire others to fall in love with a book!

Staff Recommends and New Releases Adult Fiction
The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan From Karen: This wonderful novel tells the story of Marie van Goethem, the young ballerina who posed for the famous statue "Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen" by Degas. Very little is known about this real little girl and the author does an amazing job of imagining her young ballerina's life with widowed mother and sister in Paris circa 1878, which was not a comfortable or safe existence, as one might assume.
From Fran: The Painted Girls is a captivating tale about two impoverished sisters in 19th century Paris. Marie and Antoinette dream of lives behind the curtain at the ballet and at the theater, but must face all the demons of living in the Paris slums. The reader is transported back to this time of Degas and Zola and the very unglamorous side of life. The grit of the street, the darker side of night and the deep raw emotions will grip you from the start. This is historical fiction at its best. List Price: $27.95 Our Price: $22.36
From Elizabeth M.: Frances and Bernard by Carlene Bauer This beautifully written epistolary novel was inspired by the friendship and correspondence of Flannery O'Connor and Robert Lowell. Frances and Bernard meet at a writer's colony in 1957. Back home in Boston he sends her a letter and thus begins their exchange of letters in which they discuss their work, their faith and mutual friends. Frances leaves her home in Philadelphia and moves to New York where she works in the publishing field while pursuing her writing career. Over the years their friendship shows signs of a more serious relationship, but Bernard's struggle with depression puts stumbling blocks in the way. I especially love this form of writing when it is done well and this more than meets my expectations. When you finish the last age you will want to write a letter to a dear friend. List Price: $23.00 Our Price: $18.40 From Elizabeth M.: The Ingredients of Love by Nicolas Barreau This light and frothy romp through Paris is perfect for a Valentine read. Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh's sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer. Quiet shows how dramatically we undervalue introverts, and how much we lose in doing so. This extraordinary book has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how introverts see themselves. $16.00
