Your Feedback

We were using another Daycare Facility, and when he turned three months old, we came here. We liked the ratings here, professionalism, and the fact that there were smaller play groups for him.

Your Feedback

I appreciated that Fur-Get-Me-Not has certified dog trainers on site so I knew that if a difficult situation were to arise someone could handle it appropriately. Also, I appreciated that the dogs are able to go outside regularly instead of being kept inside all day and simply expected to go to the bathroom on the floors. Finally, Fur-Get-Me-Not's staff was kind and gentle with my dog, unlike some other places where they seemed slightly disinterested.

Dog & Baby? How To Set Up Your Family For Success.
Vivian Leven, CPDT-KSA
Dog Training Director

We love our children, and we love our dogs. How can we make it work, so everyone can stay safe and happy? The challenges are very different depending on the age of the child. Our dog training director (and Mom), Vivian, was recently certified as a Family Paws certified presenter in two areas of expertise: "Dogs and Storks" and "Dogs and Toddlers." Vivian will instruct Fur-Get Me Not's first workshop on the topic this month (October 25th at 11 am). Fur-Get Me Not has all the knowledge and experience at our finger tips to bring you the resources you need.

We emphasize how to set you up for success. There are some things that are critically important to keep in mind when you live with dogs and small children:
(1) Always supervise
(2) Build good associations between the dog and child whenever you can
(3) Always make sure the dog feels safe, which includes giving the dog an option to remove him/herself from a situation and have lots of personal space. Your dog should also understand some basic cues and feel comfortable being separated in a confined area at times.

Building trust and a comfort level between the dog and the child is a gradual process, and we need to allow it time to develop. In our workshop we will cover what that looks like in practical terms.

All dogs are different in what they are comfortable with or not. It is very important to know your dog well. A basic skill in reading body language is also important, so you can pick up on signs before it turns into a potentially more serious situation.

New! Workshop:
Dog and Baby (1 session, $45)

Adding a baby to the family is a big transition. How is the dog going to respond? What is the best way to make the baby and dog best friends?  In this workshop we will cover three main topics: (1) Evaluate your dog: What are things to look for in your dog to know what may be trouble areas that you need to invest some extra work on? (2) Preparation: How can you make the transition as smooth as possible between before and after baby? (3) Build a good connection: Things to do to set up the baby and dog for a good relationship for many years to come. We end with Q&A. Any special circumstances in your home you would like input in we will address.

Behind the Scenes - Daycare Games
Daycare Manager, Julie,
playing Follow the Leader
Julie Jacobus
Assistant Daycare Manager

At Fur-Get Me Not, we believe daycare is much more than a place to house dogs. We are always looking for ways to tire your dog out, both physically and mentally, and to keep up their good manners. Our daycare attendants (DCAs) love playing games that stimulate your dog's mind, and get that extra energy out.

Below are samplings of some of the fun we have:

Follow the Leader- Our DCA's love getting as many dogs to follow them through the playgroup, up and around the play sets. This helps the dogs center their attention on the humans, and provides unique exercise.

Sit for Everything
- Sitting is great good manners, and we ask for sits, downs, shakes, and try other cues whenever your dog wants something- to go for a walk, to open doors, or for their snacks.

Bubble Time- The pups love jumping and catching bubbles, and like to show off how agile they are.
Bubble time at Fur-Get Me Not!

Tag- Many dogs love playing tag- their DCA touches them on the shoulder or rump, and runs away. When they are "caught," we turn it around on them.

POOCH- Like the game horse, two attendants challenge each other to a friendly competition. We choose each dog, and try to cue the dogs to sit, stay, down, etc. First one to spell POOCH loses.

These are just a few enrichment games we play to keep your dogs listening, interacting, and most important, tired. Know a game your dog loves? Let us know!

Leash Manners
(1 session)
Next Class: Tuesday, October 20

This is an intense session where we proof the behavior with duration and distractions. We start at a level that is appropriate for the class average, but we will make sure each individual student is personally challenged and leaves with the knowledge and tools they can use to confidently work on better leash manners.
Total students: 6
Price: $45

Confidence Building I

(6 weeks)
Next Class Starts Thursday, October 22

Is this the right class for your dog? click here to find out
This class is designed for the shy and fearful dog or the dog that is generally lacking in confidence. This may stem from a dog having none or very little socialization, having particular sensitivities in which they need extra support, or a traumatic experience that is impacting everyday life. We will address how stress impacts your dog's life and how to properly read stress signals from your dog. We will build a foundation of basic coping skills and practice on exercises to boost confidence. Emphasis will be on creating a safe place for each individual dog to learn, relax, and encourage curiosity that will foster joy of learning. The first class will take 1. 5 hours.
Prerequisite: none
Total students: 6
Price: $215

Dog Reactive I
(8 weeks)
Next Class Starts Friday, October 23

This class is designed to help if you have a problem walking your dog on leash in the neighborhood while encountering other dogs. We'll work on confidence building exercises to establish positive associations with other dogs on leash. We will review the appropriate equipment suited for this particular behavioral issue, necessary obedience cues the dog should know well, and how to combine training and management in your daily routine. This class requires that the student shows a real commitment and actively works with their dog outside of class. Please note that we will screen each potential dog carefully to ensure this class is the right fit. Some dogs may need a behavioral consultation either prior to, or instead, of a reactive dog class. We will not accept students in this class where the dog has killed or severely injured another dog. The first class is NO dogs and will take 1.5 hours.
Prerequisite: none
Total Students: 6
Price: $280
*Please contact the training department before enrolling.

K9 Nose Work® 2/4 Combo (6 weeks)
Next Class Starts Sunday, November 8

This class builds on Introduction to K9 Nose Work® I and K9 Nose Work® III, strengthening your dog's drive to hunt for food.  You will improve your observation skills and team work with your dog in more challenging container and interior searches, and expand the hunt for food into exterior and vehicle searches.  For this class it would be helpful if your dog can be crated or confined in a separate area away from you while observing the other dogs work, but it is not a requirement. Please note that classes are structured so that dogs work one at a time in the search area. To accomplish this and to allow you to observe the other dogs in class, it is helpful but not required to crate your dog during class.
Prerequisite: Introduction to K9 Nose Work® I
Total students: 5
Price: $215

Dog of the Month - Goose

Get to Know Our Dog of the Month

Meet Goose

10 weeks old

Check out our Q&A session with Goose's family...
10 months practiving "on it".

What drew you to getting Goose?

Goose was the result of my desire to become a Search and Rescue volunteer dog handler. My 9  year old Lab was too old for the work as it requires 1-2 years of training and starting them at 1 years old is preferred for longevity. While shadowing a SAR dog team, I searched for a puppy that would have the right traits to excel at SAR work - high prey drive, highly social-able, highly trainable and stamina for days. Goose from (Goose Rocks, Maine) fit the bill perfectly. However, his handler (Barb) was unable to continue SAR training due to time commitments at work.
We hope to get back to it very soon as he could use a job!
During Goose's first year on the planet, he consumed a great variety of household items. He has finally relented on his quest to sample every table leg, shoe and article of clothing accidentally made available to him - or maybe, he is finally full!

11 month old scholar.
What is the strangest habit he has, or the weirdest thing you've seen him do?

Goose does a lot of weird things as he is so enthusiastic about whatever he does - whether it is walking down the street to his favorite park or jumping with all 4 paws on kitchen counters. However, the strangest thing I have ever seen (especially for a Lab) is that he will refuse a treat (any type of treat!) when he is playing with a tennis ball.
He will also refuse to drop the ball to drink water even when he is exhausted and in need of water.

What is our favorite activity to do with Goose?

Goose gets to do many things and go many places with his 2 favorite humans. Taking him out
7 months old.
on the boat is hilarious as he is constantly flinging himself into the water and passionately swimming after the ball. His enthusiasm is infectious and no one can not smile and laugh when he is enjoying himself!

What is his favorite human treat?

Goose is exuberantly happy to get all human treats as he happily scarfs down vegetables and meat with the same gusto. Steak or chicken, of course is the prize!

What are some of his nicknames?

Goofer, Goosie, Lucy, Lucy Goosie, Goosie-alicious, Gooser

What is one thing you do to spoil or pamper him?
10 weeks old with big sister.

Goose gets a cone of sorbet on some of our walks. He stops automatically at the shop along our walk and he waits for his treat. He get so much love, attention and enjoys so many activities that it is hard to pick out one in particular... He definitely lives the life!
Fur-Get-Me-Not is definitely NOT on the spoil list as it is a requirement for his growth, overall health and happiness.

1.5 years old. Goose diving.
5 months old.
First time at beach.
9 month old Jester Goose with big sister.
