| Your Feedback... | |
I'm sure you're already of aware of this, but Lindsey is really top notch. I've been using your services since I moved to DC two and a half years ago and have always had good experiences - but Lindsey is so great. She's proactive, so considerate and conscientious. Given that my pet is 18 and sometimes a little fragile, I really feel confident knowing that she's watching over her while we're away. Having people like Lindsey on your staff is the difference between an average company and a company that people talk about and recommend to their friends. Happy holidays and thanks for the great service!
Sincerely, Lisa F. Washington DC

12 Year Birthday Wrap-Up
Last month Fur-Get Me Not celebrated 12 years in business. Here is a recap of all the ways we celebrated this milestone.
On December 13, our trainers answered questions through "Ask the Trainer" on our Facebook page. The topics included helping your dog become more independent, gave tips on building impulse control, desensitizing your pets to different noises and suggested some great dog products. Thanks for submitting great questions! Also on the 13th (the big day), we gave out 200 treat bags with baked goodies from Dogma to the dogs while their humans celebrated with cookies and hot apple cider. Daycare, Dog Walking and Dog Wash clients also received tree frames with pictures of their dogs. Discounts were given in the dog wash and in our retail store, and finally, we held a "12 Days of Holiday Cheer" appreciation celebration through our Facebook page. On each day, from December 10 through 21, we randomly selected a client to receive a special token of appreciation in honor of each of our 12 years in business. Congratulations to our winners.... Day 1: Christina Keough and "Gracie", one day of daycare Day 2: Porter Wilkinson and "Keller", one dog wash Day 3: Patricia Snyder, "Cinnamon," "Armani," & "Rose", Charlee Bear Turkey Liver & Cranberry Treats Day 4: Lisa Nealon, "Itchie," &"Mama Scratchie", one day pet sit Day 5: Kate Fry and "Shelby", Santa Sqiggler toy Day 6: David Dixon and "Greta", one training workshop Day 7: Ellen Graper, one dog wash Day 8: Heather Nodler, "Beulah," &"Mr. Tooth", one day pet sit Day 9: Tina Chicone and "Vinny", holiday Plush Puppy toy Day 10: Karina Van Der Plas and "Scottie", upgrade to luxury boarding bedding and a Dogma cookie dessert treat Day 11: Lisa Hill and "Aubie", a Tuff One Gingerbread Man Day 12: Diane Young and "Ernie", one spa package Thank you for an interesting 12 years. Train Your Dog Month
January is National Train Your Dog Month. In 2010, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) began this campaign, designed to promote the importance and benefits of training dogs to become happy and healthy companions. Too many dogs are turned into animal shelters each year for behavior and training issues that could be easily solved with proper socialization and positive, gentle, science-based methods of training. Moreover, we want the public to know that training your dog is not just beneficial, it's FUN!
Fur-Get Me Not is spreading positive dog training in support of this campaign through the following events:
VIRTUAL "ASK THE TRAINER" EVENT Wednesday, January 23rd Our trainers will be online all day, via Facebook. Check out our Facebook page and post your training questions. Not on Facebook? Feel free to email us that day at Trainer@furgetmenot.com
FREE TRAINING Throughout the month, we will randomly select 5 customers to receive a $50 gift certificate good toward dog training services. Winners will be contacted via email and Facebook. Desperately need help with your dog? Fingers crossed you'll be one of our lucky winners.
For additional resources, we highly recommend checking out the APDT website and also the Train Your Dog Month website with additional tips and a schedule of live webinars and Facebook chats occurring throughout the month.

Daycare News...
Tom Stuart, General Manager Dog Daycare Operations
Happy New Year from myself and the rest of the daycare staff. 2012 was a busy year. We avoided not one, but two Raptures, another Presidential Election, the Olympic Games, and survived the much anticipated Mayan Apocalypse, amongst other things. We welcomed many new clients and dogs into the daycare as well, and developed some great relationships with our new four legged friends. This year we are looking forward to continuing to enhance the daycare and improve the quality of service that we provide to you and your companion. One of the foremost ways we see in doing this is by continuing to work closely with our training department and to improve our knowledge of dog behavior. Towards the end of last year, the training department held monthly seminars with the daycare attendants to give them a solid knowledge base about how and why dogs learn and the importance of positive dog training and managing methods. These "brown bag" sessions are continuing into the New Year and will build off of each other. The daycare attendants have already gained some useful insight and have been applying some of it to managing the daycare dogs. We are also excited to introduce some new training materials in our repertoire. We recently acquired a new training video that is an excellent resource for us in demonstrating key play styles to new attendants to help them better understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate play. We will continue to refine how we manage our playgroups to give each dog a safe, engaging place to play while they are in our care. We are looking forward to an eventful and enjoyable year with you and your dog. Hope to see you soon!! |

Reminder - Closed Inauguration Day
Generally we do not close for the MLK holiday in January since we are just coming off several closings for the holidays through November and December. This year, the MLK holiday happens to fall the same day as Inauguration Day. We remember clearly back in 2008 when we were open, how slow business was that day. So we decided it best to close for Inauguration Day this year.
Our office, dog daycare, and training school in Arlington will be closed on Monday 1/21. Our office and dog wash in Adams Morgan will also be closed.
All regularly scheduled dog walks will be cancelled that day. If you would like to schedule a dog walk for Monday, 1/21, please call our office to make a reservation.
Holiday surcharges will apply to all boarding, dog walking or pet sitting services on 1/21.
Here are three easy ways to book your reservation:- complete our online reservation form
- email rsvp@furgetmenot.com
- call 703-933-1935

Customer Spotlight: Nemo & Kiki
Parents: George is a real estate agent with Long & Foster specializing in the Northern VA area.
Residence: Alexandria, VA Pet Profile: Nemo & Kiki are 9 year old Japanese Chins. Nemo moved in with me when he was 2.5 months old and has run the house from the start. Kiki is Nemo's half brother and he moved in 5 years ago. He began life as a show dog, he was an AKC champion and ranked number 3 in the county. Once Kiki had enough the dog shows he retired and moved in with us. It took about a month for the dogs to figure things out and since then KiKi has been Nemo's little buddy! Nemo is the "wildman" with no clue of his small stature. He has a kind soul and is always ready to play. He is either in third gear or park, there is no in between. Kiki is much more laid back, he loves to be held and he can fall asleep anywhere. He can be a little clown though, at home he runs all over the house and loves throwing blocks into Nemo. Services Used: I started using Fur-Get Me Not when Nemo was 6 months old. Tammy & Steve had just four other clients and Hunter. I have been a fan from the beginning. I have seen firsthand the blood, sweat, tears and love they've put in to make Fur-Get Me Not the incredible business that it is today. In the beginning I used the daycare, pet taxi service, in-home pet sitting and the self bath. A great part of my job now is that I can occasionally take by boys with me to open houses and showings. They are becoming famous in the real estate world! I still regularly use the daycare and bath service. How has Fur-Get Me Not services impacted your lives? We could not be happier to be a part of Fur-Get Me Not. It's always a pleasure to drop the boys off, see the welcoming staff and watch the wonderful interaction they have with Nemo and Kiki. I'm delighted and grateful for the services and professionalism. I happily recommend them whenever I have the opportunity!

Employee Spotlight: Clare
Hello! I'm Clare -- I was a registered lobbyist for six years until I left that job and became a dog walker! I started walking with Fur-Get Me Not in August 2011. I love this job and still walk the dogs of all of my initial clients from that first month. I consider it a privilege to be allowed into your homes to care for your furry and feathered family members.
I grew up with all manner of animals as pets, and deeply loved my cat, Sherlock, who lived to age 21. Strangely, a real bond with dogs didn't occur for me until my adult years. It started with enjoying dog shows and learning about dog breeds. I still enjoy recognizing unusual breeds while I'm out on walks and speculating about breed history of mixed breed dogs. From that, I have grown such an affinity for dogs that they bring joy to my heart whenever I see them. This is especially the case when they are in cars because I think that's adorable! I have a heartfelt appreciation for the honest, guileless communication of these nonverbal souls. I count myself lucky that, while a weekful of walks can be busy and even hectic, I actually feel like I'm not working. I have lived in Fairlington for 10 years, and my husband and I have four parakeets: Butterbean, Squash, Little One, and our most recent addition, Pipsqueak. Butterbean, the patriarch, is seven years old and a very important bird! I enjoy watching their interactions and clown-like antics, their sweet chortling, and even the occasional screech.
In 2013, I look forward to walking, caring for, and protecting your pets while I am entrusted with them. I also would like to give a shout-out to Sundari, who is pictured with me above, and to all my other walking buddies. It is truly a pleasure to spend time with you each day! |
