Thank you for all the tools that you have given us and the time you spent with us during class.  We will continue to work with Jackson using those tools to improve his social skills.  I've also improved with him during our walks!!

You guys did a great job!!!

Thank you!

I am writing to express our enormous thanks to Jen Weesen, who, as you know, cared for Columbus and our two other cats this past week.

Although we of course know we can rely on an excellent team at Fur-Get Me Not, I wanted to underscore particular thanks to Jen, who adeptly handled the difficulties of the storm, Columbus's health, hiding cats, and much more...she is truly fantastic, enabling us to focus on our work overseas - knowing the zoo was in good hands.

Our thanks again to you all,
Wendin S.

I also wanted to take a second to thank you, and your staff, for how well you have taken care of Maybelle in both day care and boarding.  Even just going once a week, we can see she is benefiting from it.  She goes in happy and excited and comes home at night tired!  Additionally, her boarding experience this past weekend was superb.  The staff did a great job of keeping in touch with us (we loved getting the email update!) and we can tell that they looked out for her and gave her extra attention when she was a little anxious.  We have boarded her at other facilities before, but she has come back anxious, hyper, and generally unhappy.  When we picked her up on Sunday, she was happy to see us but quickly calmed down and was then tired the rest of the day from all of the playing.  I've never seen her come back that happy from being boarded.

We love getting the detailed notes from both daycare and boarding and really feel that the staff is looking out for our dog's best interest and happiness.  Thank you also for clearing up the miscommunication on the nail clipping.  She still smells great from the spa package!

Sincerely,
Kate F.
Greetings!

We are gearing up for a busy holiday season.  We are lining up additional staff, sending out holiday reminders, and making preparations to handle the increased volume for boarding and pet sitting.  Question is, have you made your pet care reservations yet and if not, time is running out.  Hours and Closings for Thanksgiving and Christmas are listed below.

This month we are holding a drive for Homeward Trails.  We welcome any donations you have for them.  Below you will find a short list of items they are specifically in need of.

We are delighted to welcome a new manager to the team this month.  Allison Eisenberg is heading our Human Resources department.  You can learn more about her below.

In Dog Training Department News, the new Winter schedule is ready and will be published online in the next day or two.  We continue to offer more variety and introduce new classes for those looking to continue on with training and socialization.  Come January we will have 21 classes a week for you to choose from, the most we have ever offered on a weekly basis!  Among some of the newcomers are Nosework II, Treibball II, Impulse Control II, and a Maintenance Reactive Dog Class that will provide more practice for graduates of our Reactive Dog Class.

We also want to congratulate Jackie Maffucci who has just been promoted from Assistant Trainer to Lead Trainer, after passing her CPDT-KA certification.  We are very proud of her hard work and this great accomplishment!

We hope you have a restful holiday and have much to be thankful for this season.  I myself am thankful for a healthy family, a supportive staff, and wonderful clients.

Until next month,

Tammy Rosen, CPDT-KSA

Welcome New HR Manager: Allison

We are delighted to have a new face join the Fur-Get Me Not management team.  Allison Eisenberg is our new department head of Human Resources.

Allison has a Masters of Science in Education and has about 10 years of Human Resource related experience, mostly working with higher education institutions.  She is looking forward to the lifestyle change of working with a small business and with pets.  We are looking forward to leveraging her experience in hiring, training, and employee communication.

Here is Allison's bio:
"Hello there!  My name is Allison, a native north Jersey girl and current Alexandria/Arlington resident.  I get my mail in Arlington because that's where my front door and mailbox are, but more than 50% of my home is in Alexandria, so that's where I pay taxes.  I share that home with my fiance, Thayer (100% Texan), and my sproodle, Sprocket (half Springer Spaniel - half Standard Parti-colored Poodle.)  I hold degrees from Syracuse University and the University of Pennsylvania and have spent a large chunk of my career in the education and recruiting fields. I'm very excited to combine my HR background with my love of dogs at Fur-Get Me Not.  In my spare time, I play in the Vienna Community Band and volunteer/ride with 24-Hours of Booty -  the Official 24-Hour Cycling Event of LIVESTRONG™ where we raise money for local and national cancer charities."

Allison can be reached directly at hr@furgetmenot.com

We have limited availability for boarding and kennel sizes matter.  At this time, many of the medium to large size dog crates are already booked for Thanksgiving.  If you are interested in pet sitting, many of our pet sitters are full already.  We recommend calling our office for availability.

Trainer Obtains CPDT-KA Certification

We'd like to congratulate Jackie Maffucci for passing the CPDT-KA certification exam.  Many of you that have taken our dog training classes know Jackie who has been an Assistant Trainer with us for the past 2 years.  She has put in many teaching hours during that time instructing our Levels classes, workshops, and running the increasing popular puppy socials on Saturday mornings.  Jackie sat for the examination in September and passed, earning her Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) certification.

Now that Jackie has passed the examination, she has met the requirements to become a Fur-Get Me Not Lead Trainer.  We require our Lead Trainers to have this certification and while our Assistants are working towards this certification, we pair them with Lead Trainers in the classroom. This allows our Assistants to earn practice hours towards qualification to take the examination.

To qualify to take the examination, trainers have to have at least 300 hours experience in dog training within the last five (5) years. Two hundred twenty-five (225) hours (75%) of experience must be actual teaching hours (group class, private lessons) as a Head Trainer or Instructor. Seventy-five (75) hours (25%) of experience can be in other related areas such as working with shelter animals, assisting in classes, working as a veterinary technician or groomer (bather position not applicable).

Congratulations Jackie!

They say time flies when you're having fun, which is why I can hardly believe I have been with Fur-Get Me Not for over a year. At first, I spent my weekday mornings in the daycare, practicing positive training and learning different dog behaviors. Before I knew it those adorable, fluffy canines had me wrapped around their paws. Since then, I have worked in several departments including daycare, pet sitting/walking, and even participated in a few marketing events.

As a dog owner, it is important to me to find the best care for my furry best friend. I'm so thankful for all the support Fur-Get Me Not has shown to me and my black lab, Pearl. She loves coming to work with her mama, especially when she gets to play fetch with her pals Bella and Gimli:) My co-workers always make a big deal about her, which puts me at ease while I'm busy working and walking around Arlington.

Before joining the exciting world of pet care, I received a B.S. in Public Relations from Radford University, where I was honored to serve as Vice President of my sorority, spearheading philanthropic events for Susan G. Komen and fundraising for Breast Cancer awareness. After graduating, I completed two internships in marketing before moving to northern Virginia. I then worked in telecommunications and staffing, but I was still searching for a career and cause I truly believed in.

After finding Fur-Get Me Not, I felt as if I found a part of myself I never knew existed. My co-workers and managers have always set a great example and encouraged us to be the best pet care professionals we can be. How many people wake up every morning genuinely excited to start their work day? This girl does, and for that I am grateful.

When I'm not hanging out with my buddies Murphy and Sophie in daycare or taking Benjamin for a walk outside, you can find Pearl and me at Shirlington dog park, making lots of friends and memories. I also enjoy exploring the DC metro area, soaking up all the local and national history. My favorite place in DC is the National Gallery of Art.

As for the future, I look forward to meeting you and your pets, and growing within the Fur-Get Me Not family.
