PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As NENA's new president, I enjoy speaking to my fellow members about the state of the industry across the region. After the long winter we all experienced, everyone reports they are busy right out of the gate and are feeling optimistic about the spring season. Here's to warm weather and eager customers. We deserve both!
From an association standpoint, NENA's annual breakfast meeting at New England Grows was a great gathering of members. At that meeting, we announced that Professor Raul Cabrera of Rutgers University is the first recipient of a grant award from the new NENA/HRI Industry Growth Initiative fund. His research project, "Use of Alternative Irrigation Water Sources for Urban Landscapes and Nursery Crops" is an important one and we look forward to our industry benefiting from his findings.
We are now in the second cycle of grant applications and encourage NENA members to spread the word about this terrific opportunity. Applications are due to HRI by May 31, 2015. Please read more below.
Best wishes for a successful spring season.
Ed Bemis, MCH
NENA President

Ticks Appearing Early and Often
According to entomologists, the ticks are here early this year, and in greater numbers. Why? The packs of snow acted as a "blanket" for the blood-sucking insects, insulating and protecting them from the cold and wind. Ticks are also traveling - to urban areas - and they carry more than just Lyme disease. Click here to read more.
