20th Anniversary Logo

Mid-January edition
Greetings!

On Tuesday, January 8th, 80 members and guests attended our dinner meeting the DoubleTree by Hilton Cape Cod celebrating 20 years as an organization and honoring one of our founding members Yvonne Hawes pictured below with current Chapter President, June Bertucci.
We also celebrated the fact that over our 20 year history the ABWA Cape Cod Chapter has given away over $80,000 in scholarships which is main focus of our monthly raffles. Midge Rose, of Bryden & Sullivan Insurance, shown below and fundraising co-chair Cheryl Sedaker, of SeaCheryl Designs, have added a little spice to our monthly raffle by having fun themes to guide us in the selection of our raffle donations--for instance February's theme is Pretty in Pink. I already have some great ideas for my raffle donation.

Also a big thank you to the DoubleTree by Hilton Cape Cod who outdid themselves for this event and was our January sponsor.

Pre-Certification Meeting for

Small Minority, Women and

Disadvantaged Businesses

Thursday, March 7 at 10:00 am

The Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board is holding a Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) pre-certification workshop for small minority, women and disadvantaged business enterprises. Having your small business certified can help other businesses seeking contracts with the government, it also helps government and non-government agencies fulfill their affirmative purchasing and contracting goals.

Once certified, your business contact information will be published in the Supplier Diversity Office's searchable online directory. Organizations like the Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board are required to use SDO certified businesses for state contracted grants we receive. Other Non-profits use SDO certified businesses because of their mission.

Please join us on Thursday, March 7 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Career Opportunities, 372 North Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. To register click here.  If you have any questions please speak to Joan McDonald ([email protected]).

Check out this great interview of ABWA Member Erica Waasdorp, President and founder of A Direct Solution, marketing and fundraising for non-profits, as Cape Media gives Erica a chance to talk about her personal life and her new book titled, Monthly Giving, the Sleeping Giant! ABWA's PROUD CODE OF CONDUCT

Ethical dilemmas occur as a result of values in conflict. It is important that the values of the American Business Women's Association are communicated to all Members, and so chapter leaders are asked not only to communicate but also to embrace, support, reinforce and uphold ABWA's Proud Code of Conduct.

ABWA's Proud Code of Conduct was developed as a means of guiding all Members in making ethical decisions. The broad statements of the Code of Conduct that are listed below are not expected to cover all conduct for all situations, however. This is why the Proud Code of Conduct was created as a living and fluid code.

  1. All Members will serve as goodwill ambassadors for the American Business Women's Association.
  2. Members will not allow their personal beliefs and convictions to interfere with the representation of ABWA's mission.
  3. Members will always treat their member colleagues, guests, vendors and sponsors with honesty, respect, fairness, integrity, responsibility, kindness, and in good faith.
  4. Members will maintain compliance with ABWA National, Chapter and Express Network Bylaws.
  5. Members will not use their personal power to advance their personal interests.
  6. Members will strive for excellence in their professions by maintaining and enhancing their own business knowledge and skills, and by encouraging the professional development of other members.
