Budget Moves Forward

On June 15, City Council will hold a public hearing to consider the 2016-2017 proposed budget which was presented for review during the regular June 1 meeting.  The

2015-16 budget received the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Award - the highest form of achievement in governmental budgeting.

Residents can review the proposed budget, as well as an overview provided through a Letter from the City Manager.  If there are questions, please contact Alex Henderson.

Housing Allocations

The Kingsburg City Council will continue their public hearing that started during the June 1 regular meeting regarding  residential housing allocations at their June 15 regular meeting. A reminder that these individual housing allocations are not a tacit approval of a tentative tract map, but are the first steps as required by the City's Growth Management Ordinance

The North Kingsburg Specific Plan outlines many of the guidelines related to housing development.  This is the guiding document for both developers and staff when putting together a proposed tract map.  Discussion regarding lot size, circulation, parks and environmental impact would occur in the future, and public input will be welcomed.  For more information, please contact the City Planning Consultant Holly Owen.
Water Regulations

As you may already be aware, the City Council has made the following local changes with regards to outdoor watering:
  • Outdoor irrigation will be allowed three (3) days per week during the months of April - October.  (Odd Addresses can water Tues./Thurs./Sat.  Even Addresses can water Wed./Fri./Sun.) The cooler months (Nov. - March) will remain at the two (2) day per week level.
  • Watering times will be prohibited between the hours of 6am - 6pm (previously 6am - 8pm).  This change was made to allow those without automatic sprinklers to be able to move their sprinklers during daylight hours.
  • Individual monthly usage fines will be suspended.
Crews will continue to monitor regular watering practices and issue citations for those watering during non-water days or for wasting water (watering flowing beyond the property line).  It should be noted no warnings will be issued and first violations start at $25.

If there are questions about the updated guidelines, please contact City Hall at 897-5821.

This Week in History

On June 7, 1913, the Alaskan missionary Hudson Stuck led the first successful ascent to the highest peak in the U.S.,  Mt. McKinley. Stuck was an archdeacon of the Episcopal Church in Yukon, Alaska, where he would travel the difficult Alaskan wilderness to preach and build schools for the remote Native American tribes. In March of 1913 he and three other men, Harry Karstens, Walter Harper, and Robert Tantum, set out for the peak of Mt. McKinley. After a challenging climb battling difficult weather and a fire that destroyed most of their supplies they finally arrived on the southern peak of the mountain at an altitude of 20,320 feet.
