Join the Force

The Kingsburg Police Department is now hiring full time officers! If you or someone you know is interested in protecting the community, upholding the law, and becoming a local hero, then please look into joining the Kingsburg Police Department.

Some minimum qualifications are that the applicant needs a California issued Class C drivers license, a high school diploma or GED, and a P.O.S.T. Academic Certification. The applicant must also have thorough knowledge of State, County, and City laws.

The due date for all applications is June 3, 2016, at 4:00 pm at the Kingsburg Police Department.
Water Conservation

California has changed the mandatory statewide 25% reduction of water usage ordinance that was enacted last year. Instead of having a  25% reduction across the entire state, the governor issued an executive order that allows local agencies to decide how much water they should individually conserve based upon their water supply.  This was mainly due to the availability of water in the different regions across the state.

Although there is no longer a State mandate, the City's mandate to conserve water remains in effect. The City Council will discuss future conservation policy during their June 1 meeting.
Allocation Information

The City Council will consider three applications for potential single family housing allocations during their June 1 meeting.  The allocations were recommended for approval by the Planning Commission during their May 12 regular meeting.

There has been some questions surrounding the approval of allocations and their impact on potential development.  It is important to note that the approval of allocations is the first step in the process for asking for full entitlements to build housing (per the City's Growth Management Ordinance).  The approval of these allocations is not a tacit approval of the proposed tract maps for each area.  Staff will continue to work with the developers to ensure building standards, lot size, traffic circulation, green space, and other necessary amenities are included.

The North Kingsburg Specific Plan outlines many of the guidelines for building single family housing.  This is the guiding document for both developers and staff when putting together a proposed tract map.  For more information, please contact Planning Consultant Holly Owen.

This Week in History

On May 24, 1883, after a 14 year construction, the Brooklyn Bridge was finally opened. This bridge stretched across the East River and connected the two cities of Brooklyn and New York. The Brooklyn Bridge was also the largest suspension bridge ever built to that date. The grand opening of the bridge drew in the attention of thousands of residents from both cities and the dedication speech was given by President Arthur and New York Governor Cleveland. The bridge was designed by John Roebling, who sadly died before he could see his masterpiece completed, along with 27 other workers who lost their lives during the construction.
