Is That Your Money?

The State of California is currently in possession of approximately 32.5 million individuals and organizations unclaimed property, with a total worth of around $8 billion.  Businesses, financial institutions, and insurance companies are required to annually report and deliver unclaimed property to the State Controller's Office when there has been no contact between the organization and the customer for 3 years. Often the customer forgets about the account or moves without leaving a forwarding address.
New Utility Billing Information

Beginning with the May utility bill, which will be sent early next week, residents will see a newly formatted utility bill.  We hope you find the new format easier to read and more useful when charting water usage. This new format coincides with a software change that encompasses many of the City's financial operations, including in-house payroll, accounts payable, utility billing, etc.  This software change has been nearly six months in implementation, and was done to achieve:
  • $35,000 annual cost savings over the previous vendor for software maintenance (15-month payback)
  • Updated online technology to better serve our citizens
  • Improved user functionality for staff and users

The new software and utility bill will also coincide with a new online payment format, which will go live on Monday, May 2, 2016.  This online format will provide more user features including auto pay, paperless billing, previous consumption data, and more.  It is important to note that if you are already enrolled in online billing, you will have to re-register online on or after May 2nd.  May utility bill payments will not be deducted from the old Click2Gov accounts.  Those wishing to pay by credit card online or in person will be able to pay using Visa, Mastercard or Discover (a new option).

We appreciate your patience during this process, and will continually be working to improve your user experience. If there are questions about the new billing statement or online payments, please contact Finance Director Maggie Moreno at 897-5821.

This Week in History

On April 27, 4977 B.C. the Universe was created... according to 16th century mathematician and astronomer Johannes Keppler. Keppler is considered one of the founders of modern science and is mostly known for his theories that explained the motion of planets. During his time as a student he studied the revolutionary ideas of Nicolaus Copernicus, who's theory that the Sun, not the Earth, was the center of the solar system contradicted the views of the era. He then went on to work with Galileo Galilei, who invented the telescope. Kepler then used Galileo's invention to create his laws of planetary motion.
