Crime Alert

During the City Council meeting on Wednesday evening, Police Chief Dadian discussed recent crime activity and provided information related to overall trending, as well as updates regarding police hiring, departmental goals, involvement with regional task forces (MAGEC), and plans for the coming months.  Kingsburg crime data is available online at all times, and below is a three year synopsis. While the overall numbers are relatively flat over the three year period, 2015 saw a marked increase in grand theft auto.  Many of these can be prevented through locking of cars and not leaving running cars unattended.  The biggest deterrent to crime remains the assistance of all Kingsburg residents.  There is no replacement for being aware of your surroundings and reporting suspicious activity to KPD.  Residents are also encouraged to stay informed by downloading the free PD smartphone app, as well as viewing recent crime mapping information.
Council Wrap

City Council discussed and voted on a number of items on Wednesday evening, including:
  • Temporary signage guidelines (begins on page 31).  Council approved new signage language related to temporary signs only.  Previously, temporary signs were completely prohibited.  The new regulations outline a permitting process and set standards for length of time and type of signage that can be placed.  No fee will be charged for permitting. This item was also discussed and recommended by the City's Planning Commission.
  • Capital Facility Fee Update (begins on page 67).  Council updated fees that are charged for new residential or commercial development.  These fees are set to make sure the impact of new development is paid for by the developer, and not current residents.  The fees were set after an 8-month study and review period.
  • Street Sweeping Agreement (begins on page 151). Council voted to extend an existing contract with Central Valley Sweeping for five years with a 0% cost of service increase. You can view your street sweeping schedule online.
Residents can also view all agenda and supplemental information online.  Council packets are posted the week prior to each meeting.  For more info on these or other items, please contact Alex Henderson.
First Responders

The City of Kingsburg is now hiring full-time firefighters/paramedics! The application process outlines the requirements and overall testing process, so please take time to read through the brochure!  All applications are due February 26 at 4:00 pm at City Hall.
Unleashed

The City of Kingsburg would like to remind all furry friend owners that the only public area that it is legal to have your dogs off of their leash is at the City's designated Dog Park.  For all other areas of the City (parks, on walks, etc.) dogs must be on a leash, pursuant to City code.

Those visiting the dog park will notice continued progress.  New trees have been delivered and will be planted when locations are determined.  Shade structures are in the process of development, water has been added and a drinking fountain is planned.
Oh-Oh-Oh-O'Reilly's

Congratulations to Lance Hayes, Store Manager of Kingsburg's O'Reilly's Auto Parts, who was recently named Manager of the Year during the Annual O'Reilly's Manager's Conference in St. Louis. He was recognized out of the 4,500 stores across the U.S. as being the best.

Lance mentioned that without the hard work of the best team in the district this award would not have been possible. He would also like to thank every customer that helps support local business.
This week in History

On February 16, 1923, the English archaeologist Howard Carter enters the tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh King Tutankhamen. Egyptians saw their rulers, pharaohs, as gods, so upon their death the Egyptian people carefully preserved their bodies and buried them in elaborate and extravagant tombs often buried alongside their riches, and sometimes even their servants. Since this was the case these tombs were often found nearly empty, plucked clean by robbers centuries before. The reason the discovery of this tomb was so extraordinary was because it was not disturbed by grave robbers when Carter arrived.
