Now Hiring Firefighters!

Are you interested in being a local hero, helping the community, and joining a great team? The City of Kingsburg is now hiring full-time firefighters/paramedics, so your opportunity is now! The application process is very specific so please read through the brochure thoroughly to find out if you are qualified!

All applications are due February 26 at 4:00 pm at City Hall.
Senior Citizen Scam

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have issued a warning about recent scams that are targeting senior citizens who, unknowingly, act as international drug smugglers.
The scam entices these victims by tempting them with a type of business opportunity or even the inheritance of a long lost relative. The victims are then enticed to meet with their new "business partner" or "lawyer" in a different country.

This scam has already claimed 144 victims, most of which were caught by local law enforcement and arrested. Please be savvy next time you go on a new business trip. DO NOT accept any new items along the way, even though they appear harmless.
2016-2017 Budget Schedule

The City of Kingsburg's 2016-2017 budget schedule was approved and adopted by the City Council during their February 3 meeting.  The Finance Committee will meet in the coming months to discuss goals and priorities for the new fiscal year.

The initial budget will be presented in May, with a public hearing in June where the final consideration and approval of the 2016-2017 budget will take place. Residents whom are interested in the budget process are encouraged to attend Finance Committee and City Council meetings.  If you have additional questions please contact Alex Henderson.
Alley Sweeping

Central Valley Sweeping will continue with alley sweeping from Feb 8 through Feb 19. If they do not finish by the 19th then they will continue their work on Feb 22 to Feb 26.

Please be sure to keep the alleys clear of over-sized debris so the sweeping team can do the best job possible!
Door-to-Door Salesmen

All door-to-door salesmen must receive a business license and permit from the City prior to conducting their business. In addition, these salesmen also are required to get a background check from KPD.

Residents can request to see a City issued permit, which verifies that that are allowed to solicit door-to-door. If they do not have a City issued permit you can call the KPD non-emergency number at (559) 897-2931 to report their activities and location.
This week in History

On February 10, 1996, after three hours, world chess champion Garry Kasparov loses the first game of a six-game match to Deep Blue. Deep Blue was a super computer built by IBM that was capable of evaluating 200 million chess moves per second! However, in the end man beat machine with Kasparov winning three of the six games and tying two. This victory allowed Kasparov to walk away with the grand prize of $400,000.
