New Look

We've revamped the look of the Kingsburg Carrier to accomodate opening the document on a smartphone.  On average, 50% of readers of the Carrier do so on their smartphone.  We hope you like the new layout, and will share this newsletter with friends and neighbors!  Or better yet - sign them up
Dispatch Decision

The Kingsburg City Council voted to outsource law enforcement related 911/dispatching services during their regular meeting on February 3.  The decision came after several months of staff research, public discussion, and presentations to various committees.  While the change is not immediate, the existing numbers for police service (911 - emergency) (897-2931 - non emergency), will not change for City residents at any point.  For administrative purposes, a new business line will be created.  Additional information about the transition timeline will be provided via the City's website, social media, utility billing and by reaching out to local news sources.

The decision has no impact on ambulance/fire emergency calls for service, as those calls are already dispatched by Fresno County.  The proposal also includes the hiring of an additional police officer. For questions related to the transition, please contact Police Chief Neil Dadian.
Sustainable
Energy

The City of Kingsburg is now part of the Clean Energy Roadmap. This program is a checklist of all the items the City of Kingsburg can and will do to make Kingsburg as energy efficient as possible. The more energy efficient we are, the less we have to spend on energy costs. Those savings can be applied to other programs throughout the community.

The Clean Energy Roadmap still needs help, so if there are any areas that stand out to you and you have an idea of how we can improve, please let us know.  Everyone can help make Kingsburg a Clean Energy leader.

Water Savings

As noted in the Fresno Bee this week, Kingsburg residents have been doing an outstanding job of conserving water!  In fact, we were one of only two communities in the Valley to meet the conservation standard in December - we reduced use 40%!  In addition, residents continued that trend in January, cutting usage by another whopping 42%!

Residents are reminded that current City guidelines encourage all residents to reduce their use.  If we are able to meet our mandated conservation target of 36% each month, no penalties are incurred (no penalties have been issued since this was enacted in October)!  Want to save more? Dog Park Improvements

Improvements to the Kingsburg Dog Park are underway, thanks to Wabo Construction and the Community Services Commission. Wabo will be planting trees and shrubs around the park to provide shade and to help make the park look at little more aesthetically pleasing.

The Community Services Commission purchased a new drinking fountain that can provide you and your furry companion with a cool drink after a day of fun at the park.

If you have any input or thoughts on how we can help make the Kingsburg Dog Park a better place, please join us at our next Community Commission Meeting on Monday, February 22nd at 6:30PM or contact Ashlee Winslow - Schmal.

This week in History

On February 3, 2005, Alberto Gonzalez won Senate confirmation as the nation's first Hispanic attorney general. The vote was made largely on party-line politics with 60 for and 36 against, reflecting the shear split between the nation's two parties. The reason for the split was due to the current administration's (Bush Jr.) counter-terrorism policies, which had led to the abuse and even torture of prisoners in Iraq and elsewhere.
