Can you solve the riddle of the bridge?
Can you solve the riddle of the bridge?
This Week in History
On January 11, 1908, President "Teddy" Roosevelt makes the Grand Canyon a national monument. Environmental conservation was a huge statute in Teddy's presidency. The establishment of the National Wildlife Refuge, which protected the country's animals, fish, and birds, was the first of its kind, but He wanted to continue on this road and preserve the county's landscape as well. Some portions of the land were given "National Park" status, which made all private development on it illegal. Other areas were given "National Monument" status, which is slightly more prestigious than national park.
Dispatch Discussion
The City of Kingsburg Police Department currently provides the City's in-house 911 dispatching for police related calls.  In an effort to continue to provide the best quality of service, staff has examined all levels of the Police Department's operations, including the option of contracting with Fresno County Sheriff's Office for dispatching services.

The Public Safety Committee discussed the matter during their meeting on January 12, while the City Council is scheduled to hear it at their meeting on January 20.  A FAQ document regarding the process is also available for review.

For questions, comments or concerns, feel free to contact Police Chief Neil Dadian.
Reedley College Transit
Reedley College has recently started a bus transit system to address the many students that could benefit from public transportation.  Kingsburg is included as one of the stops along the corridor.  A monthly student pass is available for $35.

Take advantage of a newly created route that will pick up at 1412 Lewis St. (bus shelter at the corner of Marion and Lewis) at these scheduled times.
The Place to be!
According to a recent study, the City of Kingsburg is one of the top 10 places in California for young families to settle down.

The main factors that contribute to this are our affordable housing prices, the high increase in median income (57.15% since 1999), our school system, low crime and our Swedish heritage.
Identity Safe
Card skimming has been an issue for decades now, but there is now a new danger for theft besides ATMs, pay-at-the-pump gas stations. Crooks have figured out a way to open up the pumps and insert their skimming devices within.

A few ways to protect yourself are:
  • Look for signs of tampering and tamper evident stickers
  • If the card slot looks off, don't use it
  • Wiggle the reader - there shouldn't be loose parts
  • Pay inside or use cash

If you suspect a card reader - notify the business in question or contact KPD at 897-2931.

Well Work
2015 was a rough year for the municipal water wells in Kingsburg. Wells 13, 14, 15, and 16 have all been under repair at different times, for varying reasons.  Fortunately, each of the City's seven wells do not operate all at the same time, and our redundant system can meet resident demand by communicating over SCADA with one another to determine the area of need.

The winter months serve as the best time for repair, as citizen usage is at its lowest threshold.  Repairs are funded through the water enterprise fund, which is sustained through water sales.
