What Kids Really Want for Christmas
What Kids Really Want for Christmas
This Week in History
December 21, 1968, the Apollo 8 mission to the moon launched at Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was the first manned mission to the moon. The spacecraft entered the moon's orbit on Christmas Eve and stayed there for 10 lunar orbits. These men were the first to see the Earth from the moon's point of view, see the moon up close, and to see the dark side of the moon. On Christmas day the spacecraft left the lunar orbit and headed home for a safe landing in the Pacific Ocean on December 27. Seven months later, two of those astronauts would become the first two people ever to set foot on the moon.
Congratulations!
It was a tough decision, but after careful deliberation the winners of the 2nd annual Deck the House Contest are:

1st place- 2502 21st Street
2nd place- 1941 Windsor Street
3rd place- 2501 Erling Way

Thank you to everyone who participated and good luck next year!
Closures & Collections
City Hall will  be closed on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. Please be safe and enjoy the Holidays!

Garbage, recycling and green waste collection will only be impacted if your pickup is on Friday, December 25 and January 1.  All those homes will be picked up the following day, Saturday.
Tree Disposal
Mid Valley Disposal will be collecting trees and wreaths through the first two weeks of January. If you can cut the tree into 3-foot, or less, sections and fit it in the green waste bin they will dispose of it free of charge.

If you want the trees to be picked up they will do so for a fee of:
  • $5.00 for trees 6 ft and under
  • $10.00 for trees over 6 ft
If you would like to have it picked up, please call City Hall at  897-5821. The charge will appear on your regular utility bill. All decorations must be removed from the trees prior to disposal.
Into the Mist
Highway 99 is considered one of the most dangerous highways in the U.S. This is because of the dense traffic and denser seasonal fog. That seasonal fog has arrived! Please be careful and:
  • Increase your minimum safe distance
  • Slow down
  • Turn on your fog lights and low beams
  • Use the road paint as a guide
  • Don't use cruise control
  • Drive defensively
Be sure to check the road conditions before getting on the road.
Rx Drop Off
If you have any prescription drugs that you need to dispose of, you can take them to the Kingsburg Police Department 24 hours per day.  The drop off is located directly outside the lobby.

Residents can also take all 'sharps' to the Kmart pharmacy so that they can be properly disposed of.

Also, batteries, CFL bulbs, and florescent light bulbs can be dropped off at City Hall.  All of these services are provided FREE of charge to residents.
