This Week in History
On October 27, 1904, New York City opened a marvel of modern engineering and public transportation, the subway system. During this time this underground rail system stretched around 9.1 miles and had 8 stations scattered throughout the city. On its opening day more than 100,000 people paid their toll of 5 cents and rode this engineering masterpiece for the first time. The New York subway system since then has been the back bone of the Big Apple's public transportation.
Winter Water
City Council adopted new winter water conservation guidelines that will begin November 1, 2015.  Highlights of the guidelines are as follows:
  • If the community as a whole reaches the 36% reduction mandate for the month, no fines will be issued to anyone
  • If we are unable to meet the mandate, the highest 5% (approximately 162 accounts) of water users will face a fine of $75.
The program incentivizes all Kingsburg users to conserve water to avoid a potential fine, and also provides relief for those in larger households who may not have been able to feasibly stay below the previously adopted winter allotments.

The program does not replace any of the fines for illegal or overuse watering.  For questions on the new program, please contact Alex Henderson.
40 Under 40
Congratulations to City Manager Alex Henderson for his nomination and award for the 2015 "40 Under 40" class.  The event recognizes 40 top professionals who work in the public and private sectors in the Central Valley. All of these professionals have made significant contributions to the communities and industries that they serve all before the age of 40.
City Council Opening
Want to contribute to our great City? Now you can! The Kingsburg City Council is now accepting applications to fill the vacancy left by former Mayor Chet Reilly.

Council will hear all applications during the open session of their November 18, 2015 meeting.
Whomever is selected will serve on the Council for the remainder of the term, which is until November, 2016.
Fall Back!
Its that time of year again. The leaves are starting to change, the weather getting cooler, and the days are getting shorter.

That also means it's time to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.  Daylight savings is also the time to replace your batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.
